DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt X-Frame is a dual-hinge knee brace built around asymmetry. The hinge on the inside of the knee is, according to Leatt, 40% slimmer, so it interferes as little as possible with your grip on the bike, while the outer hinge uses metal gears for precise, durable movement.
It is a knee brace, not a knee guard. Leatt designed the injected carbon composite frame to help reduce the risk of ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries, and it also carries CE-certified impact protection to EN 1621-1 Level 1.
Key Features
- Injected carbon composite frame
- Asymmetrical hinges: 40% slimmer inner hinge (manufacturer figure)
- Metal-geared outer hinge for precise movement and durability
- Designed by Leatt to help reduce forces behind ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries
- Hyperextension stops at 5°, 10°, 15° and 20°
- CE impact protection to EN 1621-1 Level 1
- Interchangeable hinge padding sizes for a customised fit
- Low-profile shin bone pad that fits inside all boots
Two hinges, two jobs
Many braces mirror the same hinge on both sides. The X-Frame does not. On the inside, where your knee presses against the bike, the hinge is slimmed down by 40% according to Leatt, which improves bike feel. On the outside, where there is room, a metal-geared hinge provides precise tracking of the knee's movement and long-term durability.
Joint guidance and certification
Leatt designed the frame to help reduce forces on the knee and with them the risk of ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries. Hyperextension stops can be set at 5°, 10°, 15° or 20°, with ACL injury reduction as their purpose.
Separately, the X-Frame is CE tested and certified as impact protection to EN 1621-1 Level 1 for the knee.
Frame and materials
The chassis is injection-moulded from carbon composite. Leatt's material data lists 45% carbon composite for the chassis, 25% high-density nylon for frame components, 15% polyurethane impact foam, 10% stainless steel for the hinge system and 5% other parts such as Velcro, straps and hardware.
Fit and comfort
A comfortable, easy-fitting strap system holds the brace in place. Interchangeable hinge padding comes in different sizes so you can tune how the brace sits around your knee. At the bottom, a low-profile shin bone pad is designed to fit inside all boots.
Sizes
The X-Frame is offered in five sizes, S, M, L, XL and XXL. A brace only works if its hinges line up with the knee joint, so measure carefully before choosing. Leatt ships it in plastic-free packaging.
What you should know
Leatt's product page for the standard X-Frame lists no ReaFlex gel knee cup; that cushion is the defining extra of the X-Frame Hybrid. Hyperextension stops on this model run from 5° to 20°. A knee brace needs careful set-up and should be inspected after a hard crash, and no brace can prevent every injury. If you are recovering from a knee injury, discuss the stop setting with your doctor.
Colour
Black carbon composite gives the X-Frame a sober, technical look. The metal outer hinge stands out slightly against the dark frame, and the black finish keeps scuffs from boots and the bike less visible.
