DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Chest Protector 4.5 Pro Evo is the race-ready hard-shell option that still includes shoulder guards: CE Level 2 at chest and back, Level 1 at the shoulders, plus flank panels for ribs and sides. Leatt pairs the hard shell with FlexMesh Pro armour so airflow stays high while the plates articulate with your body.
This black version suits motocross and enduro riders who push hard, crash occasionally and want coverage that goes beyond the chest without stepping up to the heaviest model in the range.
Key Features
- Chest EN 1621-3 Level 2 and back EN 1621-2 Level 2
- Shoulder guards certified to EN 1621-1 Level 1
- Hard shell with FlexMesh Pro mesh armour and multi-layer, multi-plate articulation
- Extended back plate and flank panels for ribs and sides
- 30% lighter and 50% more ventilated than the previous model, according to Leatt
- Removable front and rear plates, BraceOn neck brace system
- 1.70 kg, protection score of 17 points per Leatt
Ventilation Comes First
The 4.5 Pro Evo uses FlexMesh Pro, a mesh-type armour that lets air pass through large parts of the protector. Leatt says this generation moves 50% more air and weighs 30% less than its predecessor, which makes the 4.5 Pro Evo easier to live with on long motos and hot summer rides.
Certified Impact Protection
Leatt has the chest tested to EN 1621-3 and the back to EN 1621-2, both reaching Level 2, while the shoulder guards meet EN 1621-1 at Level 1. These are impact protection ratings, which means the plates are tested for energy absorption, not only for deflecting roost.
The brand also lists FFM certification and an ISR rating for the 4.5 Pro Evo, and scores it at 17 points on its own protection scale. These figures come from Leatt.
Plates, Joints and Coverage
A multi-layer, multi-plate articulating design and Leatt's 3D shaping give the protector a close fit that follows the torso when you move. The back plate is extended for more spine coverage, and flank panels on both sides protect the ribs. According to Leatt's materials data, the protector is made mostly from high-density polyethylene (55%) with 30% EVA impact padding, 10% polyester for straps and mesh and 5% buckles and adjusters.
Neck Brace Set-Up
Leatt's BraceOn system is built into the front and back, and both plates can be removed. That gives you two ways to run a Leatt neck brace: with the brace sitting in the BraceOn recesses, or with the relevant plate taken out.
Adjustment and Sizing
Adjustable over-the-shoulder straps let you set the plate height for a personalised fit. Sizes are S/M, L/XL and XXL, covering riders from 160 to 196 cm, and the protector weighs 1.70 kg.
What you should know
The shoulders are certified at Level 1, so only chest and back carry the higher Level 2 rating. Compared with the 5.5 Pro Evo, Leatt rates the 4.5 Pro Evo two points lower on its protection score. The 30% and 50% figures compare it with Leatt's previous 4.5 Pro, not with other brands.
Colour
The 4.5 Pro Evo comes in black, a colour that keeps the hard shell understated and works with any jersey design. Black hides dust and roost marks well between washes, though a dark shell will feel warm in the paddock on sunny days, which is where the open mesh helps.
