The Knox Tor Shell in Charcoal is the waterproof half of the Tor Duo, sold on its own. It is an ultralight, packable rain jacket made to go over a Knox armoured shirt when a shower catches you on a hot day, then disappear back into a pocket.
It contains no protectors and carries no CE rating; protection comes from the armoured shirt underneath. What it does is keep the rain out with a 10K waterproof membrane and fully sealed seams, at a weight you will hardly notice.

Rain Cover for Armoured Shirt Riders
If you ride in a Knox armoured shirt through summer, you know the moment: dark clouds, no rain suit, still an hour to go. The Tor Shell is Knox's answer. It weighs very little, packs down to the size of a fist and goes over the shirt without changing how the protectors sit.
Knox originally designed it to match the Tor adventure shirt, where the Charcoal shell pairs with the Black and Sage versions, but it fits over other Knox armoured shirts too.
How It Is Made
The fabric is 100 percent rip-stop nylon, whose grid weave stops small tears from running. Knox quotes a 10K waterproof rating and seals every seam. The material is thin and semi-translucent, which keeps weight and heat build-up low.
Knox calls it light as a feather, and the construction is minimal by intention: no main zip, no heavy trims, nothing to flap or rattle at speed.
Putting It On
The shell pulls over your head. A stretch drawstring at the neck lets you set the collar opening, and the elastic hem binding with soft bonded elasticated cuffs closes the jacket at the bottom and at the wrists. The silhouette leaves room to move over an armoured shirt.
When the sun returns, fold the shell into the micro pocket on its inside and slip the package into a jacket or shirt pocket.
Night Visibility
Look closely and you see an all-over tonal print of mountains inspired by the fells around Knox in the Lake District. In headlights the print reflects, so the Charcoal shell becomes a visibility layer at night. Reflective Knox logos sit at the front and back of the neck.
Choosing a Size
Pick the shell in the same size as the armoured shirt it will cover. Knox's men's chart is based on chest and waist body measurements; the shell has room built in for the shirt and its protectors underneath. Our supplier lists this Charcoal shell in S to 3XL.
Model reference from Knox: 185 cm tall, wearing size M. Because the shell carries no armour, sizing is less critical than with the shirt; what matters is that it covers the shirt hem and does not pull tight across the shoulders when you reach for the bars.
What You Should Know
This is not protective clothing: no CE certification, no abrasion rating, no armour. Wear it over an armoured shirt such as the Tor or Urbane Pro, never instead of one. It has no pockets for storage beyond its own pack pocket, and no insulation.
The pull-over design takes a moment longer to put on than a zipped jacket, especially with a helmet in hand.
Colour
Charcoal is a dark, neutral grey that Knox pairs with the Black and Sage Tor shirts. It looks understated by day and shows less dirt than the Light Grey shell. Because the colour is dark, the all-over reflective print is what makes it visible after dark, so keep the shell clean enough for the print to work.
