DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Knox Kirkstone is a straight-fit motorcycle jean for men who find most riding jeans too slim. It keeps a classic, roomier leg from hip to hem and pairs it with single-layer denim certified to EN 17092, Class AA, plus Knox Micro-Lock Compact armour at knees and hips.
The stone wash indigo with laser finishing gives the Kirkstone the look of a traditional five-pocket jean, and the antique copper hardware adds a warm contrast to the blue.
Key Features
- Straight fit – more room than Knox's slim models
- Single-layer denim, EN 17092 Class AA
- Micro-Lock Compact knee and hip armour, EN 1621 Level 1
- Two-way stretch denim with elastane
- Laser-finished indigo stone wash
- Two leg lengths: 33 in regular, 30 in short
- Antique copper rivets and tan debossed waistband badge
A Straight Leg for Riders
Knox introduced the Kirkstone for riders looking for an alternative to the slim cuts that dominate motorcycle jeans. The straight leg gives your thighs and knees more space, which helps on adventure and touring bikes with higher footpegs and makes it easier to wear the jeans over chunkier boots. Two-way stretch denim with elastane adds movement without changing the classic silhouette.
Abrasion and Impact Protection
As with Knox's other current jeans, the abrasion resistance is built into the denim itself, so there is no separate inner layer. Knox certifies the Kirkstone to EN 17092 Class AA. Micro-Lock Compact protectors at the knees and hips meet EN 1621 Level 1, and an invisible zip on the inside of the knee gives access to the knee pocket for removing or repositioning the pad.
Finish and Production
The worn-in look comes from laser finishing rather than hand sanding. Knox points out that laser finishing is more environmentally friendly and avoids hazards that sanding can pose for garment workers. The wash itself uses non-toxic textile chemistry from Rudolf. Inside, the armour pockets, fly and front pocket bags are lined with an abstract print in sandy tones.
Regular or Short Leg
The Kirkstone comes in each waist size with two inside leg lengths: 33 inches (about 84 cm) for the regular and 30 inches (about 76 cm) for the short version. Measure standing, from the crotch to the ankle bone. A straight leg drapes over boots, so if you are between the two lengths, the regular often still works; riders who wear the jeans mostly with trainers usually prefer the short leg.
Sizing
The sizes on the label combine waist and letter: 30-S, 32-M, 34-L, 36-XL, 38-XXL and 40-3XL. The first number is your trouser waist in inches. Knox recommends measuring about 5 to 6 cm below the belly button and subtracting 5 cm from the result. Knox's 185 cm model wears size M.
Where the Kirkstone Fits In
Think of the Kirkstone as the everyday jean of the Knox range for riders with a sturdier build or a preference for a relaxed leg. It suits commuting, weekend trips on a retro or adventure bike and longer days where you spend as much time walking as riding. Knox finishes it with a tan debossed badge on the waistband, an embroidered logo on each back pocket and the brand's hexagon key ring, and it can be machine washed once the protectors are out.
What You Should Know
Knox certifies the Kirkstone to Class AA; the CE label sewn into the jeans states the exact rating. The jeans are not waterproof, the fitted armour is Level 1 and there is no tailbone protector. A straight leg can flap slightly at higher speed compared with a slim cut.
Colour
Stone wash indigo is the most classic jeans colour in this range: a mid-to-dark blue with lighter, laser-faded areas on the thighs and knees. It hides little dust but ages well, and it works with almost any jacket from black leather to olive textile. Indigo can rub off onto light seat covers when new, so a few separate washes are worthwhile.
