DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Knox Colton are single-layer motorcycle jeans for men with a slim tapered leg and a Class AA rating under EN 17092. Knox calls them its softest and most comfortable jeans so far: the abrasion-resistant canvas denim is given a supersoft wash, so the jeans feel broken-in from the first day while the protection stays built in.
The Aged Black Rust wash is a deep, slightly faded black with a warm undertone – a darker, moodier alternative to classic blue denim that suits a café racer or a modern naked bike.
Key Features
- Single-layer jeans certified to EN 17092, Class AA
- Knox Micro-Lock Compact knee and hip protectors, EN 1621 Level 1, included
- Invisible zipped armour pockets with access from the outside
- Four-way stretch denim with elastane
- Slim tapered cut with a higher waist
- Regular (33 in) and short (30 in) leg lengths
- Produced with non-toxic textile chemistry from Rudolf
Single-Layer Protection
Many protective jeans hide a second layer of aramid or similar fibre behind the denim. The Colton does without it: the abrasion resistance comes from the denim itself, which is why Knox can certify a single layer to Class AA. In practice that means less heat and no inner layer shifting around when you walk. For impact protection the jeans carry Knox Micro-Lock Compact pads at the knees and hips, certified to EN 1621 Level 1. The knee armour slides out through an invisible zip on the inside of the knee, so you can take it out before the jeans go into the washing machine.
The Fit
The cut is slim through the thigh and tapers towards the ankle. According to Knox's price-list text the rise is higher than on a standard jean, which keeps your lower back covered when you lean forward on the bike. Four-way stretch denim with elastane gives you room to move off the bike as well: climbing stairs, crouching to check the chain or sitting in a café all feel like ordinary jeans.
Two Leg Lengths – Which One Fits You
Every waist size of the Colton is offered in two lengths. Knox specifies a regular inside leg of 33 inches (about 84 cm) and a short inside leg of 30 inches (about 76 cm). Measure from the top of your inside leg down to your ankle while standing. If you land at 31 inches or below, the short leg avoids bunching above your boots; if you ride with your knees bent sharply on a sports bike, many riders prefer the longer leg so the hem does not ride up.
Sizes Explained
Sizes are written as waist and letter, for example 32-M. The number is the trouser waist in inches. Knox asks you to measure your waist where your trousers usually sit, roughly 5 to 6 cm below the navel, and to subtract about 5 cm to find your trouser size. 30-S matches a 76 cm waist and 40-3XL a 102 cm waist. The Knox model is 185 cm tall and wears size M.
Details
Knox finishes the Colton with an embroidered logo on the back pockets, a circular debossed badge on the waistband and a hexagon-shaped key ring for attaching your keys. The hip armour pockets and the fly are lined with an abstract print, and two deep front pockets have the same printed lining. YKK zips are used throughout, and the jeans are machine washable once the armour is removed.
What You Should Know
Class AA single-layer denim is strong for jeans, but it does not replace a leather or AAA garment for fast riding. The fitted protectors are Level 1; if you want Level 2 at the knee, you will need to buy compatible inserts separately. The jeans are not water-resistant, and there are no pockets for tailbone or thigh armour. Dark washes on cotton denim can transfer colour when new, so wash them separately the first few times.
Colour
Aged Black Rust is a washed black that shows a faint rust-brown cast in daylight. It looks less stark than pure black, hides chain grime well and pairs nicely with tan leather boots and brown jackets. Like any dark denim it absorbs sun on hot days, and the aged finish is intended – small variations in shade between batches are part of the look.
