The K-Tech DDS Pro shock absorber for the Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 represents the pinnacle of K-Tech's suspension engineering heritage — a race-developed rear damper whose CNC-machined aluminium body and precision internals have earned their reputation in the British Superbike Championship and at the Isle of Man TT. This is the unit that transforms the ZX-6R's factory suspension into a genuinely professional-grade chassis tool.
Key Features
- Five-way adjustability gives riders complete authority over damping character and ride-height geometry
- 32-click compression and 32-click rebound adjustment deliver exceptionally fine, repeatable tuning increments
- 16-click ByPass Valve (BPV) technology optimises traction and feedback at low shaft velocities — the characteristic that separates the DDS Pro from conventional dampers
- Hydraulic spring preload adjustment for rapid, tool-free setup changes between sessions
- Length adjustment for precise geometry and ride-height tuning without shims or spacers
- Integrated potentiometer mounting points enable full telemetry data logging when paired with compatible data-acquisition systems
- CNC-machined high-performance components throughout for long-term dimensional stability under race loading
Design, Finish and Heritage
K-Tech built their DDS (Directly Damped Suspension) platform around a philosophy of measurable, repeatable adjustment rather than approximation. Every external control — compression, rebound, BPV — is click-detented and engraved, so a rider can log a baseline setting and return to it exactly after experimenting. The housing carries K-Tech's characteristic machined finish, and the 35 mm body diameter with 12 mm shaft reflects the engineering balance between stiffness and weight that the brand refined through years of top-level competition.
The ByPass Valve technology is K-Tech's signature contribution to rear-suspension design. By routing a small, independently tunable flow path around the main piston, the BPV allows the damper to be soft and compliant over minor surface irregularities while maintaining composure under hard braking and acceleration. The result is a rear end that follows the road surface rather than skipping across it — a quality that matters as much on a demanding back road as it does at a British Superbike round.
Performance and Road or Track Use
With recommended baseline settings of 8 compression clicks, 8 rebound clicks and 8 BPV clicks (10 mm preload), the DDS Pro arrives ready for an initial setup session. Those baselines are a starting point, not a ceiling — the 32-click ranges mean there is always adjustment in reserve for heavier or lighter riders, sprint tracks, endurance circuits or mixed-condition road riding. The 55–155 spring series covers a wide rider-weight band, and the 5 mm RCU travel adjustment allows ride height to be dialled in without affecting damper stroke.
Fitment and Compatibility
This unit is a direct-fit replacement rear shock absorber for the following models:
- Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 — model years 2013 to 2026
Upper and lower mounts are eye type, each 30 mm wide with a 10 mm bolt diameter. Professional installation by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre is recommended; correct torque settings and specialist tools are required for safe fitment.
