DescriptionThe whole story▼
The K-Tech DDS Closed Cartridge Kit is engineered to a standard trusted at the highest levels of circuit racing — from British Superbike rounds to the Isle of Man TT. Designed specifically for the BMW S1000RR K46 (2015-2018), this pressurised Direct Damping System delivers a level of chassis control and suspension precision that the stock cartridges simply cannot match.
Key Features
- Patented Direct Damping System (DDS) design eliminates cavitation for consistent, fade-free damping under extreme conditions
- 20 mm piston and 31 mm control piston combination provides exceptional damping authority and hydraulic efficiency
- 30 clicks of independent compression and rebound adjustment give the rider granular, repeatable tuning across every type of road or track surface
- 18 mm preload adjustment range allows spring pre-load to be dialled in precisely to rider weight and riding style
- 8 mm piston rod and generous oil flow deliver a more communicative, responsive feel through the front end
- Race-proven at British Superbike and Isle of Man TT level — certified performance rather than claimed
Performance & Engineering
The DDS closed cartridge architecture operates under positive pressure at all times, which is the defining safety and performance advantage of this system. By maintaining pressure throughout the stroke, the oil film between moving surfaces is never broken, cavitation cannot form, and damping response remains linear and predictable whether you are trail-braking into a hairpin or holding a fast, bumpy corner. This is the same physical principle underpinning the cartridges run by professional championship teams, and it is what separates a DDS unit from a conventional open-bath cartridge.
The 20 mm inner bore paired with the 31 mm control piston creates a large effective flow area, keeping oil velocities lower and heat generation in check during extended track sessions. Combined with the 8 mm piston rod, the system's hydraulic characteristics stay consistent across the full 125 mm of travel rather than changing as temperatures build — a measurable real-world benefit over a long race distance or a hard alpine pass.
Setup & Adjustability
K-Tech supplies suggested baseline settings to reduce the time spent finding a workable starting point. Suggested compression click setting is 16 clicks from fully closed; suggested rebound is 18 clicks from fully closed; suggested oil-to-air gap is 165 mm; and suggested preload is 10 mm. These figures are drawn from K-Tech's extensive data gathered in competition, providing a genuinely informed starting point rather than a generic mid-range recommendation. From there, the 30-click range on each damping circuit offers enough spread to suit everything from a loaded road tourer to a lightweight track-day set-up.
Fitment & Compatibility
This cartridge kit is manufactured to fit the BMW S1000RR K46 model years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Always verify your exact fork inner diameter and tube length before fitting. If in doubt, contact Inter-Pace with your VIN or frame number for confirmation.
