Two Parts, One Body
Ducati builds the right-hand controls into the throttle assembly. This unit replaces both from a single billet, plugged into the motorcycle's own connector.
The V4 Granturismo
Ducati replaced the Testastretta with a 1158 cc V4 using conventional valve springs. The service interval went to 60.000 kilometres, which changed the ownership case completely.
A Hundred and Sixty-Eight Horsepower
More than the twin and considerably smoother, with the rear cylinder bank deactivating at idle to keep heat off the rider. It is an engine designed around comfort as much as output.
Sealed Contacts
Enclosed inside the machined body. A Diavel covers distance rather than laps, which means a decade of weather rather than a season of pressure washing.
A Long Reach to the Bars
The riding position puts the hands well forward and the wrists rolled. Throttle control depends more on the housing's precision in that position than it does in a tucked one.
Black Anodised
Converted into the metal. The Diavel already carries a great deal of exposed machined aluminium and this belongs among it rather than against it.
Ergal 7075
An aerospace grade at roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined alloy. On a heavy motorcycle a low-speed drop puts real force into the bar.
Thirteen Kilograms Lighter
Despite two extra cylinders, the V4 came in below the 1260 it replaced. Ducati redesigned the chassis around the new engine rather than adapting what it already had.
Original Plug
Pre-wired to Ducati's connector, so nothing is spliced. Fifteen minutes and the job is finished with nothing to reset.
