A Closed Body Rather Than a Cut-Away One
JetPrime builds two shapes of throttle housing for this motorcycle. The BM008 is the fully enclosed, cylindrical one; the BM018 is relieved and shows more of the bar behind it. They carry identical controls and use the same connector, so the decision is about the look of the cockpit from the saddle and nothing else.
Four Anodised Colours
This family is the only one in the BMW range offered in more than black. Red, blue and titanium join it, and the two bright options both appear on BMW's Motorsport paintwork, which makes them a continuation of something already on the bike rather than an addition to it. Anodising runs through the surface, so a scuff does not expose bright aluminium.
The K46 Cockpit
The 2015 to 2018 S1000RR sits between two rather different motorcycles. It kept the asymmetric face of the original and gained the electronics package that made the model genuinely usable on the road, and its handlebar layout is specific to those four model years. The 2019 ShiftCam bike needs a different housing entirely.
Why the Whole Assembly Comes Off
BMW builds the right-hand switches into the throttle housing rather than clamping them to the bar. A single tired contact therefore condemns the complete component, which is inconvenient at a dealer and is the reason an aftermarket unit covering both functions makes sense.
Ergal, Milled From Solid
The alloy is the aerospace-grade 7075, machined rather than cast. On a control the thumb operates hundreds of times a session, the value is not in the tensile strength but in how cleanly the edge around each button is cut and how long that edge stays sharp.
