A Rally Handlebar
High, wide and braced, with the rider standing for much of the time it is used properly. The mounting geometry here accounts for a hand arriving from above rather than beside.
Aligned Fasteners
One of Ducati's two clamp patterns. The master cylinder decides it and a glance at the existing block with the screws loosened settles the question.
A Clamp That Does Not Slip
Machined to the tube's diameter so it grips evenly. On a bike that will be dropped repeatedly, a block that stays where it was put is worth more than one that looks tidy.
Threads That Take Torque
Cut into solid aluminium. Handlebar components on an adventure bike come off after every fall and go back on again, which moulded bosses do not survive indefinitely.
Grit Rather Than Water
Dust worked past a clipped cover never dries out again. On a motorcycle used away from tarmac it is a considerably more serious problem than rain.
Sealed Elements
Contacts enclosed within the body itself. There is nothing to lose tension and no seam for sand to travel along toward a terminal.
Twenty-One Inches at the Front
Ducati committed to a proper rally geometry rather than fitting a nineteen and calling it adventure. It is why the Desert X works away from tarmac.
A Hundred and Ten Horsepower
From the 937 cc Testastretta in a chassis with long travel. It is considerably more power than the format needs and Ducati fitted it anyway.
Two Fuel Tanks Available
Ducati offered an auxiliary tank behind the seat for genuine long-range use. Very few manufacturers bother, and the ones that do tend to mean what they say about the category.
