A Revised Cup Bike
Yamaha updated the R7 for 2026 with revisions to the electronics and the loom, which is why it takes a different switch from the 2022 to 2025 machine. The chassis and the CP2 engine carry over largely unchanged, because neither needed attention.
Still Without Rider Aids
No traction control and no riding modes. Yamaha's position has not changed: a 73 hp twin with a good chassis teaches throttle discipline better than an intervention system does, and the price stays where the class needs it.
What the Left Hand Does
Indicators, horn and beam. It is a short list by current standards, which means the buttons can be larger and further apart than on a machine with a colour display to navigate.
A New Model Year
Parts for the 2026 bike are only beginning to appear, and components engineered for it rather than adapted from the earlier R7 are worth taking while the choice is narrow. The two are close in appearance and differ where it counts.
Water Down the Clip-On
The fairing does not protect the hands. In sustained rain water runs along the bar and reaches the switchgear, which is why sealed elements inside a one-piece body matter on a faired bike as much as on a naked one.
Commuter and Racer
R7s do both, often the same machine in the same month. The controls are worked in thick winter gloves and in racing gloves, and neither situation allows the rider to look at what they are pressing.
Black Anodised
One finish, converted into the surface rather than laid on top. A knock dulls it instead of exposing bright aluminium underneath.
