The Bike That Set the Standard
Kawasaki built the Ninja 400 on a new trellis frame with a 399 cc twin and undercut the class on weight while beating it on power. Every rival since has been measured against it, and it remains the machine most European entry-level racing series are built around.
Two Kinds of Owner
New riders and racers, frequently the same person a year apart. That produces a fleet used both for winter commuting and for pit-lane work, and switchgear that is operated in thick gloves at both ends of the spectrum.
A Simple Cluster, Used Hard
Indicators, horn and beam, with no display menu to navigate. Fewer functions means larger buttons and better separation, which is exactly right for a bike whose rider may still be building their reflexes.
Sealed for Winter
These motorcycles are frequently parked outside, and the elements inside this housing are sealed units in a one-piece milled body. That is the specification that determines whether the indicator still clicks properly in the third year.
Crash Resistance
Entry-level bikes go down, at low speed and often. A moulded housing cracks at the clamp; a milled Ergal body scuffs and keeps working, which over a couple of seasons is the difference between one part and three.
Three Finishes
Black, red and titanium. On a Ninja in KRT colours, red already appears on the bodywork; on the plainer schemes black is the quieter choice.
A Long Production Run
The fitment covers 2018 to 2024, the whole life of the Ninja 400 before the 500 replaced it. Kawasaki changed almost nothing in that period, which is unusual and convenient when buying parts for a used example.
