A Revived Name
Suzuki brought the Katana back in 2019 on the GSX-S1000 platform. The styling divided opinion and the motorcycle underneath never did.
Why It Might Come Off
Custom builds. The Katana attracts owners who change wheels, exhausts and bodywork, and a stand that fouls a new rearset assembly is a common casualty.
The Interlock
Stops the engine with a gear engaged and the stand down. It is a genuine protection on any bike that is parked and restarted regularly.
An Open Circuit
The ECU treats it as a deployed stand and cuts the engine in gear. The build cannot be finished until the loop is closed.
Presented Properly
The eliminator supplies the expected state rather than shorting the connector. On a bike built around appearance, a lit warning lamp defeats the exercise.
The First Specification
This fitment ends before the 2022 update that brought more power and a new dashboard. The earlier bikes are the ones this part number is listed for.
Three Model Years
The fitment covers 2019 to 2021 across both specifications of the revived model.
Nothing Cut
Suzuki's own connector. The switch refits with the stand whenever the motorcycle returns to standard.
Still Registered
Most Katanas remain road bikes. If the stand is fitted, the interlock should be connected whatever else has been changed.
The Original
Hans Muth drew the 1981 Katana and it looked like nothing else on a showroom floor. Reviving a shape that specific forty years later was a risk, and Suzuki carried it off better than most attempts at the same trick.
Divisive on Purpose
Reviewers spent the first two years arguing about the styling while owners quietly reported that the motorcycle underneath was excellent. Suzuki had built a competent naked litre bike and wrapped it in a shape that people either wanted immediately or never would.
