The Mechanical Step
Disconnecting the solenoid silences the system electrically. This plate closes the ports, which is what actually prevents air reaching the exhaust.
Sealed With Its Own Gasket
Included rather than optional. The location is hot and a hand-applied sealant does not survive the thermal cycling for long.
A Generation With a Following
The 2008 Fireblade was Honda chasing weight rather than headline power, and the result is still regarded as one of the better-balanced litre bikes of its era.

Honda evolved the platform steadily to 2019 without redrawing it. That continuity is why parts like this span the whole run rather than a single model year.
Quiet on the Overrun
The popping that riders blame on aftermarket exhausts is usually secondary air meeting unburnt fuel. Removing the supply removes the noise.
Before the Dyno
Injected air downstream of the chamber makes the lambda reading meaningless. Any honest mapping work starts with the PAIR system gone.
Emissions Approval
The system is part of what makes the bike road legal. Removing it is a circuit modification and worth being clear about.
Flat, and Staying Flat
Machined from solid so the sealing face does not move under heat. Pressed covers warp and eventually weep at the joint.
Nothing Permanent
The original parts refit at any point. The head itself is untouched throughout.
