DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP KS KA064 gives the ZX-6R a race bike's cockpit by replacing the ignition block with a single sealed button in the same position.
Key Features
- Kawasaki ZX-6R (2009–2016)
- Replaces the original ignition block, key and lock
- Around 350 g off the top yoke
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal
- IP69K sealed push button
- Plug-and-play on the motorcycle's own connector
The US Machines
American-market ZX-6Rs carry a different ignition arrangement, which is why the catalogue lists a separate number rather than one part for the model.
Reversible
The standard block refits on its own fasteners with its own connector. Keeping it in a labelled bag is the whole of the requirement.
A Race Regulation Question
Some championships have rules about how the engine must be stoppable. Worth reading before ordering rather than at scrutineering.
On the Top Yoke
The plate follows the yoke's shape on most models, which is why the part number changes even between bikes that look similar.
Fitting Time
Twenty minutes on most models, longer where the loom sits under the tank. Nothing about the job needs the front end apart.
The Connector Question
It matches what the ignition block used on that motorcycle. That is why the catalogue is a list of models rather than a list of sizes.
A Road Machine Should Keep the Lock
Registration rules, insurance conditions and simple practicality all point the same way. This part belongs on a bike that is trailered.
Race Series Rules
A stop control has to be reachable and unambiguous. A sealed button in the standard yoke position generally is, but the rulebook decides.
What a Seized Barrel Looks Like
A key that needs persuading in the cold and eventually will not turn at all. It is a winter failure and it happens to machines that stand.
Storing What Comes Off
Barrel, key, bracket and connector in one bag, kept with the motorcycle rather than in a drawer somewhere else. A reversible change is only reversible if somebody can find the parts, which is a lower bar than it sounds.
