DescriptionThe whole story▼
Replacing the standard plastic part with a precision-machined aluminium solution, the Hesterberg-Cad/Cam chain impact guard for the Yamaha YZF-R9 (2025–2026) delivers meaningful everyday protection without complicating your build. At around 175 grams, it is a straightforward upgrade that could spare you a costly engine case repair if the chain ever lets go.
Key Features
- Direct replacement for the original plastic chain impact guard on 2025–2026 Yamaha YZF-R9 models
- Machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminium for significantly greater resistance to chain strike damage
- Protects the engine case in the event of a chain failure — an often overlooked but potentially expensive failure point
- Available in natural aluminium or black anodised finish to suit your R9's styling
- Lightweight at approximately 0.175 kg — adds protection without adding bulk
- Purpose-built by Hesterberg-Cad/Cam for a precise, factory-quality fit on the YZF-R9
A Worthwhile Upgrade for Road and Track
The stock plastic part on the Yamaha YZF-R9 does the minimum required — it was designed for a production bike, not for a machine pushed hard on a track day or a demanding mountain road. Hesterberg-Cad/Cam designed this chain impact guard specifically for riders who want every component in the drivetrain area to earn its place.
Whether you are preparing the R9 for occasional track days, spirited road riding, or a broader performance build, this guard addresses a genuine weak point at minimal cost and effort. It slots in where the original plastic piece lived and provides a far more robust barrier between a snapped chain and an aluminium engine case.
Build Quality and Materials
The guard is machined from 7075-T6 aluminium, a high-strength alloy used extensively in motorsport and aerospace applications. It offers excellent resistance to impact and deformation, making it a far more credible line of defence than the factory plastic equivalent. The two finish options — natural aluminium and black anodised — are both practical choices: natural aluminium is easy to inspect for wear or damage, while the black anodised version blends cleanly with darker engine and frame aesthetics.
Fitment and Compatibility
This chain impact guard is designed exclusively for the Yamaha YZF-R9 for model years 2025 and 2026. It replaces the original plastic part on a direct swap basis. Please note that once this guard is installed, the original splash cover is no longer compatible. Before fitting, check whether any additional add-on parts — such as aftermarket chain guards or front sprocket covers — are mounted in the chain, front sprocket, or splash guard area, as these may also be affected.
