The DesertX uses the 937 cc Testastretta twin in a chassis built for off-road riding, with a 21-inch front wheel and long-travel suspension. After a dusty day, checking the oil level is part of the routine, and the Gilles OFC turns the filler cap into a part worth looking at.

Types 1X to 4X
Gilles lists the OFC-20-25-1 with M20 x 2.5 thread for the DesertX of 2022 to 2025. The cap is opened with its hexagon socket or the supplied tool, and one of four anodised inserts adds colour to the engine case.
Long stages
On a long desert or gravel stage, fuel stops are the moments to check the oil level. With the bike upright on level ground, the reading is reliable, and the cap is quick to open with its hexagon socket.
Road Approval
Gilles states in the product description that no TÜV approval is needed for the OFC, and its fitment list marks the cap as not requiring registration on the Ducati DESERT X. Nothing is entered in the vehicle documents.

Fitting
With the engine off and cool, unscrew the original filler cap and screw the OFC in by hand. Tighten it with the supplied tool; firm is enough. Choose the insert colour you want and check the oil level as usual.
