DescriptionThe whole story▼
The S1000RR earned its reputation on the brakes. BMW's first litre-class superbike arrived in 2009 with a front end that could out-stop almost anything on a public road, and the standard lever was never quite the equal of it. The FXBL-08 replaces that lever with a CNC-machined unit that folds away in a fall and offers 35 separate reach positions, so the blade sits exactly where your fingers close rather than where the factory decided the average hand would be.
Key Features
- Thirty-five reach positions, set by hand with a central adjuster wheel
- Folding blade with a defined break point in the two-finger zone
- Phosphated pivot bushing for play-free movement under load
- Blade profile shaped for two-finger braking from a full tuck
- German type approval under ABE No. KBA 91203
- Direct fit to the original master cylinder, no adapters
Construction and Material Quality
The lever is machined from solid aluminium and hard anodised black. Gilles phosphates the bearing surface rather than relying on the anodising alone, which is the difference between a lever that still feels tight after a winter of salt and one that develops a rattle. The blade carries the milled Gilles pattern on its upper face, a detail that also gives a gloved fingertip something to locate against.
Adjustment and Braking Feel
Reach is set through a knurled wheel in the lever body. The adjustment is fine enough that you can chase the last millimetre between a lever that arrives too early and one that runs out of travel against your fingers, and it holds its setting without a lock nut. On the RR this matters most when tucked behind the screen, where the wrist angle changes and a lever set up for upright riding suddenly sits too far away. The folding joint lets the blade swing clear in a low-side instead of snapping at the perch, which is what usually ends a track day.
Fitment and Compatibility
Built for the BMW S1000RR across the full K10 and 2R10 run, model years 2009 to 2018. This covers all four factory type approvals in that span. The 2019 model onwards uses a different master cylinder and needs another lever from the FXL range. The clutch side is served separately by the FXCL-28.
Road Approval
Registered for road use in Germany under ABE No. KBA 91203. The break point in the two-finger area is part of that approval and must not be modified.
Scope of Delivery
Supplied as a single brake lever, black anodised, ready to fit. No adapters or additional hardware are required on the S1000RR, and the original lever can simply be set aside. The ABE certificate is available as a download on this page and should be printed and carried with the vehicle papers.
