DescriptionThe whole story▼
The hugger. It bolts to the swingarm, follows the rear tyre and catches what the wheel throws before it reaches the shock, the linkage and the underside of the tail. On a motorcycle with no bodywork to hide behind, it is also one of the few components visible from directly behind.
Key Features
- Swingarm-mounted rear mudguard with integrated chain-side flap
- Five versions, the widest choice on the rear of this motorcycle
- Autoclave-cured laminate following the tyre radius closely
- Original swingarm fixings, no drilling
- Includes raw and twill satin alongside clear coat and matt
The Part That Earns Its Money in Winter
A rear shock lives directly in the spray path of the tyre, and the things that shorten its life are salt and grit rather than mileage. A hugger does not stop that entirely — nothing bolted to a swingarm can — but it intercepts the worst of the direct throw, and that is measurable in how a shock body looks after three seasons.
The same applies to the linkage bearings underneath. Whether the hugger is carbon or plastic makes no difference to that function; what carbon changes is that it does not go brittle and crack at the mounts after a few winters.
Fitment and Compatibility
BMW S1000R, model years 2021 to 2026, on the standard swingarm fixings. Fullsix lists the same article for the S1000RR from 2019 onward and for the M1000RR, which use the same swingarm. Non-standard tyre sizes should be checked for clearance.
Road Approval
Fullsix publishes neither an ABE nor an EC type-approval number for this part. Treat it as a replacement guard and confirm the position for your own registration before road use.
Finish, With the Road in Mind
This panel takes more direct grit than anything else on the motorcycle. Raw handles that best because there is no lacquer layer to chip, and the texture hides the marks it does collect. Twill satin is the choice for a machine that stays dry. Clear coat looks superb for one season and then honestly records every stone that hit it.
