Filling the Gap in the Trellis
Ducati leaves this area partly open, and what shows through is wiring, the airbox edge and whatever else lives under the seat. The standard inserts tidy that in plastic; these do the same job in laminate and sit exactly where a rider's heel passes on the way off the bike.
Protection as Much as Trim
Boots reach this part of the frame constantly, and the powder coating underneath does not recover from scuffing. Covering it early keeps the frame looking right when the bike is eventually sold, which on a model this heavily traded is worth more than the set costs.

Fitting
Transfer the original grommets and seat the locating pegs before turning any screw. The plastic in a ten-year-old bike is brittle, so work slowly and warm, and keep a few spare grommets to hand rather than stopping halfway.
