DescriptionThe whole story▼
The DesertX runs the 937 Testastretta with its front cylinder head canted forward and largely unprotected, sitting right behind the front wheel. Everything that wheel picks up on a gravel road arrives there. This cover puts a carbon shell between the head and the stone that would otherwise find it.
Key Features
- Shields the exposed cylinder head area from stones and debris thrown by the front wheel
- Autoclave carbon, stable at the temperatures found on the outside of a running head
- Mounts on the original fixing points without spacers or adapters
- Four surfaces available, each with its own order code
- Replaceable: a cover that takes a hard hit is unbolted and swapped, which is not true of the head behind it
What It Is Actually Protecting
A cylinder head is not something you repair at the roadside. A deep strike on a cooling fin or a cover face is at best cosmetic and at worst a slow oil weep that appears three hundred kilometres later. On a bike designed to be ridden away from tarmac, spending a modest sum to put a sacrificial panel in front of that is straightforward arithmetic.
Carbon earns its place here on impact behaviour rather than weight. A laminate absorbs a strike by deflecting through its thickness and returning; an aluminium guard of the same mass dents and stays dented, transmitting more of the hit to whatever is behind it. The part is small, so the saving in grams is not the argument — the argument is what happens on contact.
Fitment and Compatibility
Ducati DesertX, 2022 to 2026, with the standard 937 Testastretta engine. Uses the original fasteners. Inspect the cover after any significant off-road impact and replace it if the laminate has split rather than merely scuffed.
Road Approval
Fullsix publishes no ABE or EC type-approval for this cover. It is a bolt-on protective panel with no structural or emissions function; confirm the position for your own registration before road use.
Inspect It After a Hard Day
A protective part is only doing its job if you check it. After any impact that you felt through the bars, look at this cover properly rather than glancing at it: a scuff through the surface is cosmetic and can be ignored, but a split in the laminate or a star-shaped crack around a mounting boss means the panel has absorbed as much as it can and should be replaced before the next trip.
The reason to be strict about this is that a cracked cover no longer distributes an impact — it transmits it. Against the cost of attention to a cylinder head, replacing a damaged one is not a difficult decision.
