IN2005Y mounts the R9's race tail to the subframe. It belongs to the rear of the motorcycle, not to the fairing, which is worth saying because Carbonin's R9 range contains five small stainless brackets whose numbers run consecutively and whose jobs are entirely different.

Label Them Before They Leave the Bench
IN2001Y, IN2002Y, IN2003Y, IN2004Y and IN2005Y arrive as five small stainless pieces in five small bags, and once the bags are open they are difficult to tell apart at a glance. Anyone building a bike over several evenings will save themselves an hour by writing the number on a piece of tape and putting it on each bracket as it comes out of its packaging. The same applies when spares are bought ahead of a season and stored in a box together.
After a Crash, Look at the Mounting
When a bike goes down the tail usually survives, and the attention goes to whatever is visibly scraped. The brackets are worth a look anyway. A tail that has taken a load sideways transfers it straight into these fixings, and a bracket bent by two or three millimetres will hold the seat unit slightly out of line — which the rider feels as an uneven seat and which puts a steady load into the laminate that was never meant to be there. Straightening a stainless bracket is not the answer; replacing it is, and it costs very little.
Where It Sits in the Order of Work
The tail brackets go on before the seat unit and before the support, with the subframe still accessible. Once the tail is on, the fixings are reachable only through the seat opening, which is how a fastener ends up cross-threaded.
