DescriptionThe whole story▼
Engineered specifically for the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M (RN32, 2015-2016), the Arrow Indy-Race 71829AK slip-on silencer is built from aircraft-grade aluminium and finished with a carbon end cap — delivering a genuine reduction in unsprung mass alongside a more responsive throttle character that you can feel from the first ride.
Key Features
- Aluminium canister body keeps total silencer weight to just 1.93 kg, improving handling and reducing strain on the mid-pipe junction
- Carbon end cap adds a race-inspired aesthetic while contributing to overall weight savings
- Stainless steel internal components resist heat fatigue and corrosion across the full temperature range of the R1's crossplane inline-four
- Removable DB-Killer included for straightforward noise management — remove it for track days, refit it for road use
- E-number homologation means the silencer is fully road-legal straight from the box
- Designed to pair directly with an Arrow header to form a complete, performance-matched exhaust system
Construction & Materials
Arrow's Indy-Race line occupies the sweet spot between all-out race hardware and a refined road product. The 71829AK canister measures 250 mm in length with a 55 mm inlet diameter and a 58 mm outlet diameter — dimensions that Arrow's engineers have matched precisely to the RN32 mid-pipe geometry. The aluminium shell is robust yet impressively light, and it develops a subtle, purposeful patina over time rather than the heavy oxidation you might see on lesser alloys. Inside, a stainless steel baffle assembly handles the thermal and acoustic demands placed on it by the R1's high-revving engine without warping or discolouring.
Performance on Road and Track
With the DB-Killer removed, the Indy-Race produces the aggressive, raspy exhaust note that the crossplane-crank R1 is famous for — crisp on the overrun, purposeful at mid-range, and genuinely stirring at the top of the rev range. On the road, refitting the DB-Killer brings the noise level within legal limits while preserving the improved throttle response and exhaust flow characteristics. Arrow recommends a dedicated ECU remap to extract the full performance benefit from the freer-flowing exhaust path.
Fitment & Compatibility
This silencer is a direct-fit replacement for the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M, model year 2015 and 2016 (frame code RN32). It replaces the stock canister at the mid-pipe connection and requires no modification to the frame or subframe. For a complete system upgrade, it can be combined with an Arrow header pipe to form a full matched exhaust installation.
