DescriptionThe whole story▼
The same static noise reading as the standard exhaust: 88 dB at 5,375 rpm, before and after. That is what Akrapovic's data says, and it makes this the quiet option for an R3 — the one that changes the look and the weight without changing what the neighbours hear.
Key Features
- 1.5 kg, down from a standard silencer of 2.9
- EC and ECE type approval, plus a US EPA approval
- Carbon fibre construction
- Static noise recorded as unchanged at 88 dB
- Twenty-five minutes to fit, with no ECU work
- Covers the MT-03, R3 and R25 across eight model years
The Road-Legal Route
Akrapovic builds several exhausts for this platform and most of them cost the owner the type approval. This one does not. For a rider on a restricted licence who wants the bike to look and weigh less like a commuter without any paperwork changing, it is the sensible choice.
The Racing Line for the same machines is a complete system, saves far more weight, and requires the belly pan to be removed and the road approval to be given up. Two very different purchases.
The Torque Data Contradicts Itself
Akrapovic's record for this part lists standard torque as 29.9 Nm and torque with the system as 28 Nm — a drop of nearly two newton metres — while separately recording an increase of 0.2 Nm at 10,700 rpm.
Those two statements cannot both describe the same dyno run. Both are reproduced here because that is what the manufacturer publishes, and neither is presented as settled. Treat the torque figures for this part as unverified; the weight and the approval are the reasons to buy it.
One Point Four Kilograms
2.9 kg standard to 1.5, a little under half. On a motorcycle of about 169 kg that is under one per cent of the total, and it is honest to say so.
Where it comes from matters more than how much: the silencer hangs off the right side, high and rearward, and that is the least helpful place on any motorcycle to carry mass.
Twenty-Five Minutes
The quickest fitting time of any exhaust in this group. Akrapovic describes the Slip-On Line as being for riders who do not want to make major modifications to the standard system, and twenty-five minutes is what that means in practice.
Three Names, Eight Years
The MT-03, the R3 and the YZF-R25 share a platform, and Yamaha built it from 2014 until the 2022 restyle. One part number covers the whole run.
Machines from 2022 onwards have different bodywork and a Euro 5 engine, and take a different silencer.
A Revised Part Number
The suffix marks this as a revision of an earlier version. The original no longer appears in the current price list; this is what Akrapovic ships today.
Road Approval
EC and ECE type approved, plus a US EPA approval. No entry in the German vehicle documents is required.
