DescriptionThe whole story▼
6.7 newton metres at 2,650 rpm. That is barely above idle on a boxer, and it is the single most useful number on this page — a loaded R 1250 RT pulling away from a junction lives exactly there.
Key Features
- 6.7 Nm more at 2,650 rpm and 3.5 PS at 7,350 rpm
- Exhaust valve for improved rideability at low revs
- Made from the finest stainless steel
- Also fits the Akrapovic silencer BMW sells as standard equipment or as an accessory
- Removable insert included
- Covers the GS, R, RS and RT
- No road approval — circuit use only
It Works With the BMW-Fitted Silencer
This is the part that sets E-B12R7/1 apart. BMW fits an Akrapovic silencer to some R 1250 machines from the factory and sells the same unit through its accessory catalogue. Akrapovic states this header fits that silencer as well as its own aftermarket ones.
If your bike already wears the BMW-supplied Akrapovic can, the header alone completes the system — no second silencer purchase.
Plan for the Remap
Akrapovic recommends remapping the ECU when installing this header, specifically to prevent a check engine warning. That is a firmer statement than the usual performance advice: without it the dashboard is likely to complain.
Budget a dyno session alongside the part rather than discovering the warning light afterwards.
Stainless Steel, Not Titanium
Akrapovic builds two headers for this engine. E-B12E4/1 is titanium; this one is stainless steel and costs more, which looks backwards until you see what it carries — the exhaust valve, the insert, and compatibility with BMW's own silencer.
Steel is also the more forgiving material on a machine that sees winter roads and gravel.
Which of the Two Headers to Buy
Akrapovic catalogues two headers for this engine, and the choice is not about performance — the published figures are close. It is about what else the part brings.
Take E-B12E4/1, the titanium one, if weight is the priority and you are buying an Akrapovic silencer to go with it. Take this stainless one if your motorcycle already wears the Akrapovic silencer BMW supplies, if you want the removable insert, or if the bike sees salt and gravel. Steel is heavier and more durable; titanium is lighter and more delicate. Neither is road legal.
The Insert Is Not an Approval
This header ships with a removable insert, which on a type-approved slip-on would be the part that keeps it legal. Here it is not: the header has no approval with the insert in or out. It changes the sound, nothing else.
Fitment and Compatibility
E-B12R7/1 covers the BMW R 1250 GS, GS Adventure, R, RS and RT from model year 2019 through 2024. Installation is quoted at 90 minutes.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
