DescriptionThe whole story▼
2.9 kilograms. That is the lightest complete exhaust system in this entire Akrapovic catalogue — lighter than any of the Kawasaki or Yamaha motocross systems, and 1.1 kg below the Suzuki's own standard pipe.
Key Features
- Titanium complete system, 2.9 kg against a standard 4.0 kg
- 27.5 per cent of the exhaust weight removed
- 38.9 PS at 11,850 rpm, up from 38.4
- Torque unchanged at 26.5 Nm
- Covers eight model years, 2019 to 2026
The weight is the story
Half a horsepower and no torque gain — Akrapovic publishes both plainly. The number that matters here is 1.1 kilograms, and at 27.5 per cent it is one of the largest proportional savings in the range.
On a 250 motocrosser weighing around 105 kg, taking 1.1 kg off the upper right side changes how the bike behaves in the air and through a rut more than half a horsepower ever will.
Eight model years on one part number
2019 through 2026. Suzuki has left the RM-Z250 largely alone across that span, which is unusual in a class where the Japanese manufacturers normally revise every two or three years — and it means this single article covers most RM-Z250s on the ground.
Not for the road
Closed course competition only. No EC or ECE approval, no homologation document. Akrapovic marks the RM-Z systems the same way as the rest of the motocross range.
The lightest system here, and why that matters on a 250
2.9 kilograms is the lowest figure in this catalogue, and it lands on the bike where weight is least welcome. A 250 four-stroke motocrosser is ridden on momentum: the rider carries speed through corners rather than accelerating out of them, and anything that makes the machine easier to place is worth more than a horsepower.
Suzuki's standard system is a 4.0 kg steel assembly. Replacing it removes more than a quarter of that mass from high on the right-hand side.
Torque unchanged, and why that is fine
Akrapovic publishes 26.5 Nm before and after. On a 250 that is the expected result: the engine is at the limit of what its port timing and compression allow, and an exhaust cannot rewrite that.
What the system does is take weight off and sharpen the response. A shop that tells you a pipe will transform a modern 250 is selling something other than the truth.
Titanium and a long ownership
Because the RM-Z250 has run largely unchanged from 2019, a system bought today will fit a replacement bike bought in three years. That is unusual in this class and it changes the economics: the exhaust outlives the motorcycle rather than being scrapped with it.
Titanium helps here too. It does not corrode from the inside after wet seasons, and a dented titanium silencer is still a working silencer.
Fitting
A complete system: the standard header and silencer both come off. Akrapovic supplies the mounting hardware; a fresh exhaust port gasket is a Suzuki part and should be on hand before starting.
Article number
Akrapovic lists this system as S-S2MET6-BNTA. For an RM-Z250 built between 2010 and 2018 the Slip-On Line S-S2SO5-BNTA is the listed option.
