DescriptionThe whole story▼
Read the years before you order. Honda changed the standard footpeg bracket on the Africa Twin for 2018, and this set will not fit a 2016 or 2017 CRF1000L. Akrapovic states that exclusion explicitly, and it catches people out because the two generations look identical from the side.
Key Features
- Fits the CRF1000L from 2018 and every CRF1100L
- Does not fit the 2016 or 2017 CRF1000L — the bracket is different
- Cast in one piece from Grade 5 titanium in Akrapovic's own foundry
- Octagonal profile with a Y-shaped reinforcement and central teeth
- A pair of rubber pads included, fitted without tools
- Covers both the standard bike and the Adventure Sports
- The original mounting hardware must be reused
Two Generations, One Set
The 998 cc CRF1000L and the 1084 cc CRF1100L are different motorcycles with different frames and different engines, and from model year 2018 onwards they share this footpeg mount. Both the base machine and the Adventure Sports are covered.
If your registration document says 2017 or earlier, this is not your part. There is no adapter and no workaround — Honda's bracket geometry changed.
What Titanium Buys on a 240 Kilogram Bike
Weight is not the argument here. An Africa Twin loaded for travel weighs a quarter of a tonne, and a pair of footpegs will not change that.
What matters is that Grade 5 titanium does not corrode and does not bend. A cast steel peg deforms when the bike goes over on rocky ground; these are designed for exactly that load, and they will still be straight when the plastics are not.
DCT Riders Especially
Honda's dual clutch transmission takes the left foot out of the job of shifting, which changes how a rider stands on the pegs off-road — both feet doing the same work, and both wanting the same grip. A wide toothed platform earns its place faster on a DCT machine than on a manual one.
Fitting Notice
Akrapovic requires that the original mounting hardware be reused. Keep the pins and clips when the standard pegs come off.
How to Check Which Generation You Have
The simplest test is the model year on the registration document. If it reads 2018 or later, this set fits. If it reads 2016 or 2017, it does not, and no amount of looking at the bike will tell you otherwise — Honda changed the bracket without changing anything visible.
If you are buying for a machine you have not yet seen, ask the seller for the year on the papers rather than the year of first registration, which can differ by a season.
The Pads Are Not an Afterthought
Akrapovic includes the rubber pads specifically to reduce vibration on road sections. On an Africa Twin that is not a small consideration — this is a motorcycle regularly ridden a thousand kilometres to reach the terrain it was built for.
The pads fit without tools, so the change happens at a petrol station rather than in a workshop.
