DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every session on a circuit begins and ends with a lap that is not like the others. The out-lap is ridden on cold everything, with the rider looking for temperature and the brakes doing more work than the pace suggests. The lap back to the pits is the opposite: slow, deliberate, a chance to let heat out of the machine. Accossato's ceramic option for the rear of the Ducati SuperSport 950 S is the ZXC ceramic racing compound on the AGPA42 pad, article AGPA42ZXC, listed for the model from 2020 to 2024.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati SuperSport 950 S, 2020 to 2024
- AGPA42ZXC: the AGPA42 shape in the ZXC ceramic racing material
- Accossato describes it as a ceramic compound for racing
- One rear caliper, so a single box with two pads does the job
- Fitted as part of preparing a machine for the circuit
- Front pads for this bike: the AGPA177 across the same seasons
- The AGPA42 shape also comes in OR and ST
- No German ABE in our files; competition use
Construction and Material Quality
A ceramic compound for racing is the whole of the factory description, and the sparseness is fair: this material belongs to the part of the catalogue written for closed courses. At the rear of a machine its job is narrow but real, because the pedal is what a rider uses to settle the bike rather than to stop it, and that use puts heat into a small caliper with almost no air around it. Accossato's general promise of slow wear and limited heating is therefore aimed at the right place here. The AGPA42 plate is identical across the article's versions, so the surface is the only thing the suffix changes on a SuperSport 950 S.
The Out-Lap and the Lap Back In
Cold material is not the same material. On an out-lap the pads have been sitting in the awning at air temperature, and the first two or three applications feel longer and duller than the rider expects, which is precisely when a novice group tends to arrive at a corner too quickly. Experienced riders build that lap deliberately: a couple of firm applications on the straight, weight moved about to get some warmth into the tyres, and no heroics before the machine has answered properly.
The lap back in matters just as much. Rolling in slowly with the brakes released lets air carry heat out of discs and calipers instead of trapping it in a stationary machine. Standing on the pedal all the way down the pit lane does the opposite. Once the SuperSport 950 S is on its stand, leave it a few minutes before touching anything, then check the pads and the fluid while the memory of the session is fresh. Little of this is difficult; it simply has to become a habit before the day gets busy.
Fitment and Compatibility
At the rear of this model the AGPA42 is listed for 2020 through to 2024, where one caliper takes one box. The front is covered by the AGPA177 for the same seasons, and with two calipers up there it takes two. Accossato also names two discs for the SuperSport 950 S, the DK053 and the DKS053, which are different parts, so measure before choosing between them. This pad shape serves other motorcycles in the catalogue as well, which is why the article number is the reliable thing to order by.
Road Approval
The AGPA42ZXC reaches us without a German ABE and without any inspection certificate, so it is sold for racing, track days and closed courses.
Scope of Delivery
A single box holding two AGPA42 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing material, the complete set for the rear caliper of the SuperSport 950 S.
