DescriptionThe whole story▼
Preparing a road bike for a circuit is largely a matter of small adjustments, and one of the smallest is the rear brake pedal. A thick-soled boot sits differently on it from a road boot, and a pedal left where the factory put it is either out of reach or quietly under the sole all afternoon. Riders sorting that out tend to change the friction material while they are down there. Accossato's ceramic option for the rear of the Ducati SuperSport 939 S is the ZXC ceramic racing compound on the AGPA42 pad, article AGPA42ZXC, listed for the model from 2017 to 2020.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati SuperSport 939 S, 2017 to 2020
- AGPA42ZXC: the AGPA42 shape in the ZXC ceramic racing material
- Accossato describes a ceramic compound meant for racing
- One rear caliper, one box, two pads
- Fitted as part of a track preparation rather than a service
- Front pads for the machine: the AGPA177 across the same years
- The AGPA42 shape is also offered in OR and ST
- No German ABE documented; competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato gives this material one line and it names racing as the purpose, which tells a rider where the compound belongs and, just as usefully, where it does not. The carrier below the friction layer is the standard AGPA42 plate, identical to the one under every other version, so a machine can be moved from a road material to this one and back again between events without anything else changing. What the firm claims for its pads in general is a long working life with little fade, and at the back of a circuit bike the second half of that matters more than the first, because a rear caliper heats up quickly and has almost no air moving over it.
Setting the Pedal for a Track Boot
Getting the pedal height right is worth more than most riders give it credit for. Too high and a boot rests on it through every corner, dragging the material and warming a caliper that never gets a chance to cool. Too low and the foot has to hunt for it in the one moment it is wanted. The adjustment is usually a locknut and a clevis, and ten minutes with the machine on a stand and the boots actually on your feet settles it properly.
Check what moves with it. The pedal should return cleanly against its spring with no sponginess in the last part of the travel, the light switch wants resetting if the bike still has one fitted, and the master cylinder pushrod should not be at the end of its thread. Then roll the SuperSport 939 S forward with the pedal released and listen for a rub. Anyone who sets the bike up for the circuit on Friday and rides to work on Monday should expect to move it back again, because a position that suits a race boot is rarely the one a road boot wants.
Fitment and Compatibility
At the rear of the SuperSport 939 S the AGPA42 is listed for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. One caliper works there, so one box is a full change. The front end of the same motorcycle is covered by the AGPA177 for those years and takes two boxes, as there are two calipers to fill. Accossato's disc listing for the model shows the DKS036. As the shape is fitted to more than one machine in this range, put the article number on the order and nothing will be ambiguous.
Road Approval
No ABE and no German inspection paperwork for the AGPA42ZXC is held here. The pads are supplied for racing, track days and other closed-course riding.
Scope of Delivery
A box of two AGPA42 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing material, which is everything the single rear caliper of this Ducati takes.
