DescriptionThe whole story▼
In competition the rear brake stops being an afterthought. Riders use it to keep the back of the bike in line under a hard stop, to trim a line that is running wide, and to obey a pit-lane limit enforced with a stopwatch. Accossato's AGPA42ZXC carries the ZXC ceramic racing material on the rear plate of the Panigale 1199 R, a ceramic compound the company puts squarely in racing. It is listed for the 1199 R across the 2013 to 2015 seasons and comes as the pair of pads that caliper takes.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 1199 R, 2013 to 2015
- AGPA42ZXC: the AGPA42 rear carrier with the ceramic racing material
- Accossato describes the compound as ceramic and made for racing
- For a rear brake worked during a race, not only in the paddock
- One box is the complete set for the single rear caliper
- Front pads for the same machine are the AGPA106
- OR and ST are the other materials on this carrier
- No German ABE in our records; competition part
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's note on this material amounts to two words: ceramic, racing. What that means for a rear pad is a friction surface chosen for a bike ridden at competition pace rather than through a town, mounted on the AGPA42 plate that the rear caliper of the Panigale 1199 R takes. Nothing about the carrier changes between the materials, so a team that has fitted one of the others will recognise the job immediately.
Short Races, Hot Work
A club race is over quickly, and everything on the bike is asked for its full effort in that time. The rear brake has a different job at racing pace than it does on the road: a dab on the way into a slow corner, a steadying press while the bike is still upright at the end of a straight, and a very firm application at the pit-lane line, where a penalty waits for anyone arriving too fast. None of that is gentle, and none of it lets the small rear disc cool down.
Because a rear caliper sits out of sight, it gets forgotten in the rush between sessions. Build it into the routine: wheel out, pads compared against a new pair, caliper cleaned before the piston goes back, disc face checked for scoring. A rear pad worn through unnoticed during a weekend is a nuisance on Sunday afternoon, and on a Panigale 1199 R the wheel has to come out anyway whenever the chain or the tyre wants attention.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato assigns the AGPA42 to the rear wheel of the Panigale 1199 R for 2013, 2014 and 2015, and one box covers that caliper completely. The front position on the same bike belongs to the AGPA106 over the identical years, and the DKS036 appears in the disc part of the catalogue. Other Panigale models are listed under numbers of their own; this entry covers the 1199 R alone.
Road Approval
There is no ABE and no German test paperwork for AGPA42ZXC in our files, so it changes hands as a competition part for circuits and organised events.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA42 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing material, the full set for the rear caliper of a 1199 R.
