DescriptionThe whole story▼
Most complaints about a new set of rear pads turn out to be complaints about a dirty disc. Chain lubricant, a careless aerosol and the general grime of a paddock all end up on the same surface, and a ceramic compound is no more immune to it than any other. Accossato lists the AGPA42 for the rear wheel of the Ducati Monster 1200 S of 2014 to 2021, and this article, AGPA42ZXC, carries the ZXC ceramic racing material, which the company names as a ceramic mixture for competition.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati Monster 1200 S, 2014 to 2021
- AGPA42ZXC: the AGPA42 plate in the ZXC ceramic racing material
- Accossato files the ceramic mixture with its racing articles
- The S Stripes of 2015 to 2017 belongs to the same entry
- One caliper at the rear, so one box is the axle
- Two pads in the box
- The same plate is also pressed in OR and ST
- No German ABE on record; a competition part
Construction and Material Quality
Two words are all the factory supplies about this compound, and they are ceramic and racing. They are repeated here without elaboration, because an honest short answer serves a rider better than a long invented one. The rest of the article is a known quantity: an AGPA42 plate, the same piece that carries the other materials, so the caliper is not being asked to accommodate anything new when the compound changes.
Keeping the Rear Disc Clean at the Circuit
A rear disc sits directly downwind of the chain and directly above whatever the back tyre throws up, which makes it the dirtiest friction surface on a Monster 1200 S. At a circuit that counts for more than it does on the road, because the chain is being oiled more often, the machine is pushed across ground nobody has swept, and the rider is relying on a small, precise input at the pedal rather than a firm one.
Two minutes of care solves most of it. Oil the chain with the wheel masked, or with a card held behind it, and do the job when the machine is going away rather than immediately before a session. Wipe the disc with a clean cloth and a suitable cleaner if anything has landed on it, and do that before new pads go in rather than after deciding they feel wrong. Where a set has already been contaminated, replacing it is quicker than arguing with it. Look at both pads with the wheel turned, too, because the inboard one usually hides the bad news.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list names the rear wheel of the Ducati Monster 1200 S for 2014 to 2021, with the S Stripes of 2015 to 2017 on the same line, and the single caliper there takes one box. The front of the machine runs the AGPA106 over the same years and needs two. No disc for the Monster 1200 S appears in the Accossato range. Since this pad shape is also listed under other bikes, quote the article number when the order goes in.
Road Approval
Nothing resembling a German ABE or a test report exists for the AGPA42ZXC in our files, and the article is catalogued for competition.
Scope of Delivery
A single box with two AGPA42 pads in the ZXC material, the full rear set for the Monster 1200 S.
