DescriptionThe whole story▼
In a race paddock the rear brake is the part nobody discusses until it fails. It runs hot, it hides behind the wheel where nothing can be seen without kneeling down, and it is usually the last item on the list before the bike goes out. Accossato gives the rear wheel of a Ducati Hypermotard 939 a material meant for competition: article AGPA42ZXC, the AGPA42 plate with a ZXC ceramic racing face, listed for the 939 from 2016 to 2018.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Ducati Hypermotard 939, model years 2016 to 2018
- AGPA42ZXC: the ZXC ceramic racing compound on the AGPA42 plate
- Accossato's own description: a ceramic compound for racing
- Chosen where the rear pedal is worked throughout a session
- One box, two pads, which is the single rear caliper
- OR and ST cover the same plate for road riders
- The AGPA177 takes the front wheel of the same machine
- No German ABE on file; racing equipment
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato was founded in 1969 at Moncalieri, south of Turin, and still builds its brake parts in that corner of Italy. The ceramic face on this plate belongs to the competition side of the catalogue and is presented without decoration as a compound for racing. What a rider notices is steadiness once the material is warm rather than an immediate bite from cold, and at the rear of a Hypermotard 939 that trade is easy to accept, because the rear brake is rarely the first control used in anger.
What the Mechanic Checks at the Rear
A sensible routine takes only a few minutes between races. Kneel down and look at both pads through the opening, remembering that the inner one is often thinner than the outer. Spin the wheel and listen for a drag. Put a finger on the caliper body and compare it with the front: a rear that is markedly hotter than it should be after a steady lap points to a sticking piston or to a pedal resting on the master cylinder. Check that there is free play before the pedal starts to work, because a rider who has adjusted it for feel can easily leave the system slightly applied. Look at the fluid. None of this is glamorous, and it is why the rear of a well-run Hypermotard 939 seldom causes a retirement.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato catalogues this plate at the rear of the Hypermotard 939 for 2016 to 2018, in standard and SP form. With one caliper on that wheel a single box is a complete change. The same bike takes the AGPA177 at the front across those years. Anybody who also needs discs will find the DK053 and the DKS053 in the Accossato list for this Ducati, both of them front parts.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE nor a test certificate is held here for the AGPA42ZXC. It is sold as a racing part, for closed circuits.
Scope of Delivery
A pair of AGPA42ZXC pads in one box, the set for the rear caliper of the 939.
