DescriptionThe whole story▼

It is fair to ask why a ceramic racing pad appears in the list for a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure at all. The answer is that Accossato makes one AGPA92 plate for the 2014 to 2018 Adventure and fills it five different ways, and the ZXC ceramic racing compound is one of those fillings, described by the company as a ceramic material made for racing. It is there for the small number of owners who ride this machine at events, and it is honest to say that most people looking at the rear of their GS Adventure want one of the other four.

Key Features

  • Rear pads for the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, 2014 to 2018, article number AGPA92ZXC
  • ZXC ceramic racing compound, one of two competition materials for this plate
  • Accossato describes it as a ceramic material for racing
  • Two pads per box; the rear wheel of this bike has one caliper
  • OR, ST, EV1 and EV2 are the other fillings of the AGPA92 shape
  • Front pads for the same machine: AGPA177
  • The DK006 disc is also listed for this GS Adventure
  • No German ABE available to us; racing and circuit use

Construction and Material Quality

Two words carry Accossato's description of this material, ceramic and racing, and the company does not expand on either. What can be said with confidence is where it sits: it is an alternative to the other competition filling rather than a grade above it, and riders choose between the two on feel. The general characteristics Accossato attributes to its pads apply here as well, among them deceleration that arrives strongly, a limited build-up of heat under repeated use and a friction surface that lasts. The plate is the ordinary AGPA92, and the box holds the two pads that the rear caliper of this bike takes.

The Honest Case for a Ceramic Rear Pad

There is one situation in which this article number is the obvious choice, and several in which it is not. The obvious one is a GS Adventure that gets ridden at speed on a closed course, whether that is a circuit day taken seriously or an event with a clock, where the rear brake is used for real and the rider already knows which material they prefer at the front. Everything else points elsewhere. A bike that tours wants the ST filling, one that mostly runs errands wants OR, and a rider who divides the year between fast roads and the occasional track day is well served by EV1. We would rather tell you that than sell you a racing pad for a commute. If you do belong in the first group, treat the change as a set: bed the new pads in gently before the first fast run, keep an eye on the fluid level once they start to wear, and look at the rear disc at the same time, because it works harder at an event than it ever does on the road.

Fitment and Compatibility

The fitment is the rear wheel of the R 1200 GS Adventure, 2014 to 2018. One box finishes a change, and both pads go in at once. All five materials share this application, so switching later is a matter of ordering a different suffix. Accossato covers the front of the bike with the AGPA177 pad across the same years and lists the DK006 as the disc for this model.

Road Approval

No German ABE exists for the AGPA92ZXC and no other approval document is in our hands. We supply it for racing and for use on closed circuits.

Scope of Delivery

One box, two AGPA92 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing compound, enough for the rear caliper.
