DescriptionThe whole story▼
Watch a race from the outside of a corner and you will see the rear brake used in ways nobody teaches on the road: a touch on the way in to settle the machine, a longer press to hold a line when the front is already loaded. For a Benelli Leoncino 500 of 2016 or 2017 that is raced or taken to track days, Accossato lists the AGPA42 rear pad in its ZXC ceramic racing compound.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Benelli Leoncino 500 of 2016 and 2017
- AGPA42ZXC: the AGPA42 shape in the ZXC ceramic racing compound
- Accossato describes a ceramic material intended for racing
- For a rear brake that is used deliberately on a circuit
- Two pads in the box, the set for one rear caliper
- Later Leoncino 500 machines carry the AGPP95 at the rear
- The front of these early bikes is covered by the AGPA96
- No German ABE documented; competition and track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato calls the ZXC ceramic racing compound a ceramic material made for racing and offers it in the AGPA42 outline for the back of the early Leoncino 500. Picking a competition material for a rear brake looks eccentric until you have watched what a rear brake does on a circuit, where it is used on purpose and often, in short presses, while the machine is leaned over and the rest of the chassis already has plenty to think about. The pads come two to a box, the set for the single caliper at the back of the bike.
What the Right Foot Does on a Circuit
On the road the rear brake mostly keeps a motorcycle tidy at low speed. On a circuit it takes on a more active job. A short press on the way into a corner settles the machine onto its suspension and takes the last of the drive out of the rear tyre; another, held lightly through a long turn, will tighten a line that is running wide. Neither is a matter of force, since a rear wheel that locks while the bike is leaned over teaches a lesson nobody enjoys, so the useful part is fine control with the toe rather than the whole boot. Riders who take this seriously set the pedal of their Leoncino 500 lower than a road rider would, where it can be reached with the ball of the foot still on the peg, and they look at that setting again after the first session, once the boots have warmed up and the riding position has settled. Remember as well that a rear brake used this often on a hot afternoon works far harder than it ever does on the way to work.
Fitment and Compatibility
The AGPA42 is Accossato's rear pad for the Benelli Leoncino 500 in 2016 and 2017, and nothing in the list extends it to the model years after that, which are served by the AGPP95. For the front of an early Leoncino 500 the catalogue offers the AGPA96, and the DKS032 floating disc is available for the front wheel. One box is a caliper's set; on a bike prepared for the circuit it is worth carrying a spare set in the van along with the front ones.
Road Approval
Our documents contain no German ABE for the AGPA42ZXC and no approval of any other kind. The pad is sold for competition and closed circuits.
Scope of Delivery
One box of two AGPA42 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing compound, enough for a rear caliper.
