DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few owners will ever need this pad, and that is fine. The ZXC ceramic racing compound exists for the handful of riders who compete with, or regularly lap a circuit on, a 2016 or 2017 Triumph Tiger Explorer, the machine Accossato calls the Tiger 1200 Explorer, and who want to try a ceramic mix while they refine their machine during a meeting. Reference AGPA177 covers the front calipers. Anyone touring, commuting or booking the odd track day should pick another compound from the same plate.
Key Features
- AGPA177 front pad in ZXC ceramic racing compound
- For the Triumph Tiger Explorer (Tiger 1200 Explorer), 2016-2017
- Accossato: a ceramic compound ideal for racing
- For race weekends and setup work in the pit
- Two pads per box, one front caliper
- Also available as ST, EV1 and EV2
Construction and Material Quality
In the Italian maker's own summary, ZXC is a ceramic mix ideal for racing, full stop. We pass that on as it stands, without guessing at what goes into it. Like every Accossato pad, it also carries the brand's general promise of patient wear, a stable response as temperatures rise and a powerful stop.
Setup Work Over a Race Weekend
Racing teams often use a race weekend to fine-tune their brakes: comparing compounds in practice, noting how the lever feels as the pads come up to temperature, and deciding which setup to use in the race. A ceramic compound gives such riders another option to try. In the pit, the work includes checking pad thickness after every session, inspecting the discs, bleeding the system and cleaning the calipers. On a heavy bike like the Explorer, brake heat builds up quickly, so monitoring pad and disc condition is especially important. For a mix of road and occasional circuit use, EV1 is designed for that; for long touring, ST.
Fitment and Compatibility
This reference belongs to the 2016 and 2017 Explorer only. Owners of a 2012 to 2015 bike need AGPA58, and that plate has no ceramic version. Twin front calipers call for a pair of boxes. The rear of every Explorer from 2012 to 2017 takes Accossato AGPA76. A thorough bedding-in before the first flying lap and a firm lever at the pit exit are non-negotiable.
Road Approval
No German ABE or test mark for AGPA177ZXC is held in our records. It is sold exclusively for racing and competition.
