DescriptionThe whole story▼
Anybody running a season on an older machine learns to buy consumables in winter. Parts for a model that left the price list years ago are not always on a shelf in May, and a weekend can be lost waiting for a courier. Accossato's ZXC ceramic racing material for the front of the Ducati Monster 821 Dark is the sort of item worth having in the box before it is needed: article AGPA177ZXC on the AGPA177 shape, described by the company as a ceramic compound intended for racing, and listed for 2015 and 2016.
Key Features
- Front pads for the Ducati Monster 821 Dark, 2015 and 2016
- AGPA177ZXC: the AGPA177 shape with the ZXC ceramic racing material
- Accossato specifies a ceramic compound for racing
- Worth stocking in advance for an older machine
- The front axle is a two-box job, one box for each caliper
- Two pads in every box
- ST, EV1 and EV2 sit on the same shape
- No German ABE on file; racing part
Construction and Material Quality
The manufacturer offers two pieces of information about this material, its ceramic nature and its racing purpose, and declines to elaborate. What can be relied on without any elaboration is the interchangeability: every compound in this family rides on the same AGPA177 plate, so a set bought in January and left in a cupboard until August will go into the caliper exactly as the last one did. For a bike whose parts availability is no longer guaranteed, that consistency is the practical argument.
Stocking the Spares Box Before the Season
A well-organised spares box is mostly boredom and foresight. Pads, a spare lever, cable ties, a length of lockwire, and the small things that end a day when they are missing. The front pads matter more than most because they are the item most likely to run out mid-weekend, and on a Monster 821 Dark there are two calipers consuming them at once rather than one. Buying for the season rather than for the next event is the cheaper way round.
Store the set somewhere clean and dry, keep it in its box so the friction faces stay free of oil, and label anything part-worn that goes back in as a spare rather than trusting your memory next spring. When new material finally goes in, clean the caliper pistons before they are pushed back, check what is left of the discs, and bed the pads in with deliberate applications before the Monster 821 Dark is ridden in anger.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives the front fitment for the Dark as 2015 and 2016, and nothing outside those two seasons is covered by the entry. Since the wheel has two calipers, a full set means two boxes. The rear of the same machine is served by the AGPA42 in the same years, while the DKS053 is the disc Accossato catalogues for the model. The article number is the only reliable identifier, because this shape appears under a considerable number of bikes.
Road Approval
Our records contain no German ABE for the AGPA177ZXC and no test certificate, so the pads are listed for racing and closed courses only.
Scope of Delivery
A single box with two AGPA177 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing material, matching one front caliper of the Monster 821 Dark.
