DescriptionThe whole story▼
Changing the front pads on a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is a two-caliper job, and it is worth setting aside an afternoon rather than squeezing it in before a ride. Accossato offers the AGPA177 for the 2014 to 2018 Adventure in the ZXC ceramic racing compound, a ceramic material the company intends for racing, and a set of four pads for the front of this bike therefore means two boxes and two identical pieces of work, one on each side of the wheel.
Key Features
- Front pads for the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, 2014 to 2018, article number AGPA177ZXC
- ZXC ceramic racing compound on the AGPA177 plate
- A ceramic material that Accossato describes as made for racing
- One box equals two pads equals one caliper
- Two boxes are needed to refresh the whole front wheel of this model
- ST and EV1 fill the same shape for road use
- Rear pads for this bike: AGPA92; the DK006 is the disc in the same range
- No German ABE in our files; racing and circuit use only
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato describes the mixture in this article number as ceramic and reserves it for racing; beyond those two words the company keeps its own counsel, and we would rather leave the gap open than fill it with guesswork. Where it belongs in the range is plain enough. It is the ceramic member of the competition pair for this plate, picked by riders who like the way it speaks through the lever rather than because it ranks above anything. The general claims Accossato makes for its pads cover it as well: strong deceleration, limited heating, slow wear. Packing follows the family rule of two pads per caliper.
One Wheel, Two Identical Jobs
Two calipers mean two chances to do something in a hurry. Work through them the same way and the front brake comes out even. Clean each caliper before anything is pushed back, because grit on a piston will be dragged into the seal and will stay there; press the pistons home slowly and watch the fluid level in the reservoir rise as you do. Fit both boxes on the same afternoon, never one side now and the other next month, since a wheel with two different states of pad wears unevenly and gives a lever that feels vague. When the wheel is back in, pump the lever until it is firm again before the bike moves, and then test the brake at walking pace in your own street. New pads on a GS Adventure want a settling-in period of gentle applications before anything hard is asked of them, and on a machine this heavy that is worth doing deliberately rather than discovering the hard way at the first junction.
Fitment and Compatibility
The listing covers the R 1200 GS Adventure of 2014 to 2018 at the front wheel. Both calipers take one box each. For riders who want something less severe in the same shape, Accossato offers ST for all-weather work and EV1 for quick road riding with the occasional track day, while the other competition filling shares this fitment. The rear of the bike takes the AGPA92 pad and the catalogue lists the DK006 disc for the model.
Road Approval
An approval for the AGPA177ZXC, whether a German ABE or anything else, is not documented in our files. We supply it for racing and closed courses.
