DescriptionThe whole story▼
A brake lever is an instrument as much as a control. Over a weekend of riding it tells you how the pads are bedding in, how hot the discs are getting and whether the fluid is still doing its job, and a rider who listens to it makes better decisions than one who only looks at lap times. Accossato's ZXC ceramic racing material, a ceramic compound the firm recommends for competition, is offered in the AGPA177 front pad for the BMW F900R of 2020 to 2026.
Key Features
- Article number AGPA177ZXC: front pads in the ZXC ceramic racing material
- For the BMW F900R, 2020 to 2026
- A ceramic mix that Accossato puts forward for racing
- Intended for riders who work the front brake hard and repeatedly
- Two plates in each box, which is one caliper's worth
- Both front calipers of the F900R want their own box
- ST, EV1 and EV2 materials cover the same plate for other uses
- No German ABE on file; for circuit and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato calls this a ceramic compound suited to racing and leaves it there, so the rest has to come from how such materials behave. They are chosen where a brake is used hard and given little time to cool, and they reward heat and firm pressure rather than a light touch. The general claim Accossato makes for its pads, that they limit the heat they generate and so postpone fading, sits most comfortably with this one. As with every AGPA177, the plate is the same and the material is the variable; two plates make up the set for one caliper, and they should be fitted as a pair with the caliper and disc clean.
What the Lever Tells You
New pads never feel right for the first few stops, and that is expected: the friction faces have to marry to the disc before the bite point settles. Give a fresh set a series of firm applications from moderate speed with a pause between each one, and notice how the lever gradually comes back to a consistent position. From then on, any change in that position is information. A point that moves closer to the bar within one session usually means heat in the fluid or pads that are being asked for more than they can give; one that has drifted overnight points at air or at a piston that is not retracting. A vibration you can feel through the fingers is more likely to be the disc than the pads. Riders who log these things across a weekend spot a problem before it costs them a session. On an F900R the upright position makes the lever easy to read, because the wrist is relaxed and the fingers are not fighting the bar for position; that is one of the quiet advantages of a naked bike on a circuit.
Fitment and Compatibility
This pad is catalogued for the front of the BMW F900R across 2020 to 2026, a run which covers the whole life of the model so far. With a caliper on each front disc, two boxes complete the axle, and the sides belong together. Accossato lists three other materials on this plate for road and track use, the AGPP91 at the rear of the same bike, and the DK006 and DK007 among its discs for the F900R.
Road Approval
For the AGPA177ZXC there is no German ABE in our records and no test document of any kind. The pads are sold for competition and for closed-circuit use.
Scope of Delivery
