DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ask a club rider what changed between two meetings and the answer is rarely the engine. A click of preload, a different lever position, another pad compound: the small adjustments are what make a lap repeatable. Accossato's ZXC ceramic racing compound belongs to that list of adjustments. Carried on the AGPA177 outline, it fits the front wheel of the Aprilia Tuono 660 built from 2022 to 2025, and the company presents it simply as a ceramic compound for competition riding.
Key Features
- Front pads for the Aprilia Tuono 660 of 2022 to 2025 in the ZXC ceramic racing compound
- Accossato's ceramic material, offered for racing rather than for daily transport
- Article number AGPA177ZXC; the outline is shared with the road compounds
- Two pads per box, which equips one caliper of the pair at the front
- Made by a firm that has built brake components since 1969, near Turin
- Rear pads for the same machine are catalogued as the AGPA42
- Gentler compounds exist on the same shape for road use
- No German ABE available to us; sold for racing and closed courses
Construction and Material Quality
Ceramic friction materials found their way into racing because of how they behave once the whole front end is hot, and ZXC ceramic racing is where Accossato puts its version. The description the company gives is short enough to quote in full: a ceramic compound suited to racing. Since every compound in this family shares one plate, a rider who decides on Saturday evening that a different material would suit Sunday morning loses only the few minutes the swap takes, with no change to the caliper or its mounting. Accossato has been making brake parts since 1969, when the firm started in Moncalieri on the edge of Turin, and the competition side of the catalogue is still where most of its development goes.
Brake Feel as Part of the Set-Up
Riders talk about suspension settings far more than about lever feel, yet the brake is the control they use most precisely. On a Tuono 660 the useful work happens in the first part of the lever's travel: that is where the front tyre is loaded, where a corner entry is shaped, and where a rider decides whether to trust the marker board. Getting it right is mostly routine. Set the lever span so the fingers reach it without stretching, bed a new set of pads in before you need them, and write down after each session what the brake actually did rather than what you hoped it would do. If the bite point wanders, look for air in the system or a piston that is not moving freely before you blame the material.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato assigns the AGPA177 to the front of the Aprilia Tuono 660 for the model years 2022 to 2025. One box equips one caliper, and since this machine carries two at the front, two boxes finish the job; fitting a fresh pair on one side only leaves the wheel gripped unevenly. The AGPA42 pad from the same programme covers the rear of the Tuono 660, which is worth ordering in the same parcel when a meeting is coming up.
Road Approval
We have received no German ABE and no test certificate for this pad, and a ceramic competition material would not be offered as a road part in any event. It is sold for the circuit.
Scope of Delivery
A box with two AGPA177 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing compound, the quantity one front caliper takes.
