DescriptionThe whole story▼
The rear brake of a Yamaha R1 does less work than the front, but it still matters: for settling the chassis in a slow corner, trimming speed mid-bend and holding the bike on a steep hill start. Accossato lists rear pad AGPP39 for the R1 from 2015 to 2024, and offers it only in the Sintered (ST) compound. That makes the choice simple, and the ST mix suits a rear brake that often sits cold for long stretches.
Key Features
- Rear pad AGPP39 in Accossato's Sintered (ST) compound
- For the Yamaha R1 2015-2024
- Accossato: high, constant grip hot or cold, good wet grip
- Predictable feel for light, precise rear braking
- Suits a rear brake that often works cold
- Two pads for the single rear caliper
- ST is the only compound listed for AGPP39
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato says the Sintered compound keeps a high, constant level of grip at high and low temperatures and grips well in the wet. On the rear of a superbike, where the brake may be touched only occasionally and is often cold when you need it, a compound that does not depend on heat is useful. Accossato's general claims of long life, less fade and strong stopping apply as the maker's statements.
Using the Rear Brake on an R1
Experienced riders use the rear brake of an R1 gently: a touch to steady the bike before tipping in, a little drag in slow hairpins, or holding it on a gradient. Those inputs need a brake that responds the same way every time, without a sudden grab. The ST compound's steady behaviour hot or cold helps here. It also copes with wet roads, where a smooth rear input is especially valuable.
Changing the Rear Pads
Clean the caliper before removing the old pads, press the piston back carefully, fit the new pair and pump the pedal until it is firm.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists AGPP39 for the YZF 1000 R1 from 2015 to 2024. Earlier R1 generations are not included in this listing. The rear has one caliper, so one box is a complete set. For the front, Accossato lists AGPA97 for the R1 from 1998 to 2003, for the 2006 SP and from 2015 to 2024. Check the rear disc for wear and the fluid level at the same time.
Road Approval
AGPP39ST comes without an ABE; no test documents are available to us, so it is offered for track and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
Two Sintered (ST) rear pads, AGPP39, a full set for the R1's single rear caliper.
