DescriptionThe whole story▼
Owners of a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R from 2017 to 2020 who travel far, carry a passenger and ride whatever the forecast says will want a rear brake that does not change its mood with the weather. Accossato's AGPA29 rear pad in the Sintered compound is aimed at them. The maker says this mixture keeps a high, constant grip level at low and high temperatures and continues to work well in the wet, which is exactly what a loaded rear wheel needs on a long tour.
Key Features
- Sintered rear pads AGPA29ST
- KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, years 2017 to 2020
- Accossato: grip stays high and even, hot or cold
- Keeps its bite on wet tarmac
- Suits aluminium cases and a pillion
- One box for the single rear caliper
- No ABE on record; for sporting use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's case for the Sintered compound rests on constancy. The grip level is said to stay high whether the rear disc is chilly after a motorway stretch or hot after a long downhill run, and the pad is meant to bite reliably when water is on the disc. On an R carrying two people and their luggage, the rear brake takes on a bigger share of every stop, so that steadiness pays off. The friction layer is bonded to the AGPA29 plate. Accossato, today based in Villastellone near Turin, also designs its pads to limit fade.
Two People, Full Cases, Wet Roads
Load an R with a passenger, panniers and a top box and the balance of the bike shifts rearwards. Experienced two-up riders respond by bringing the rear brake in earlier and more firmly, letting it take some of the load off the fork. On a long wet descent, that technique keeps the bike level and calm between hairpins, provided the pedal responds in the same way each time.
Weather adds another layer. Spray from the front wheel reaches the rear disc too, and a compound that recovers its grip quickly means fewer surprises when you stop at a junction in the rain. Before a big trip, measure what remains of the old pads, look for a lip on the disc edge, check the fluid, and clean the piston before retracting it. Once the new pair is in, work the pedal until it is firm again.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists this AGPA29 rear pad for the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R in model years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020; for the R models after 2020 no rear fitment is given. At the front, the R takes Accossato AGPA96 across 2017 to 2022. Alternatives on the AGPA29 backing are Organic, STMX and EV1.
Road Approval
No ABE or approval mark exists in our files for this Sintered rear set; it is intended for motorsport use.
Scope of Delivery
