DescriptionThe whole story▼
Loaded touring puts extra weight on the rear wheel of an Indian Springfield, and the rear brake becomes a real tool for settling the bike. Accossato offers this rear pad for the Springfield from 2016 to 2023 in the Sintered (ST) compound, which the company says keeps a high, constant grip across temperatures and works well in the wet. It suits riders who travel two-up with full panniers in any weather.
Key Features
- Sintered (ST) rear pads for the Indian Springfield, 2016 to 2023
- Accossato quotes constant grip hot or cold
- Good performance on wet discs
- Steady pedal with a passenger and panniers
- One box: two pads for the rear caliper
- Front pad AGPA38 listed for the same bike
- For racing and competition use in Germany
Construction and Material Quality
The Turin company sums up its sintered mixture in two claims: grip that stays high and even whether the brake is cold or hot, and reliable bite when water is on the disc. Behind a pair of full panniers, a Springfield rear caliper sees exactly those swings, from a frosty car park at breakfast to a warm disc at the foot of a mountain road. Accossato adds its familiar pad promises of slow wear and less fade, as the friction material is meant to build up heat only gradually. Its formula is not published, and we do not speculate about it.
Panniers, Pillion and a Wet Forecast
Picture a Springfield heading for the coast in late September: partner on the back seat, panniers closed, rain expected by the afternoon. The rider dabs the rear brake to keep the heavy bagger calm over bumpy village streets and to hold a steady pace on the way down to the sea. That is the job the ST pad is made for, and it keeps doing it after the first shower. Riders whose Springfield only comes out on dry evenings can choose the quieter Organic pad instead.
Packing List for the Brakes
Before setting off on a longer Springfield journey, look through the caliper at the remaining friction material and change the pads at home if they are getting thin. Top up or renew the fluid, wipe the disc with a clean cloth and brake cleaner, and make sure nothing from the pannier fittings rubs near the caliper.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's catalogue gives AGPA81 for the back wheel of the Indian Springfield built between 2016 and 2023, and names the Dark Horse and the Limited in that list. A single rear caliper means a single box. The matching front part number is AGPA38. After the swap, press the pedal several times until it is hard, and ride a few gentle stops unloaded before packing up.
Road Approval
We have received no approval documents for these rear pads, so we list them for racing and competition use in Germany.
