DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Explorer trim gives the Caballero 500 a rack and the intention to use it, and a loaded bike changes what the rear brake is for. Descending a long unlit road with camping kit strapped down and a head wind behind, the pedal becomes a tool for holding speed rather than a way of shedding it. Accossato's AGPP91 in the Sintered material, article AGPP91ST, is the rear pad for this Fantic in 2017 and from 2022 to 2023, and the factory describes a constant grip level at both ends of the temperature range, wet included.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Fantic Caballero 500, 2017 and 2022 to 2023
- AGPP91ST: the AGPP91 carrier pressed with the Sintered material
- A grip level the factory calls constant, hot disc or cold
- Wet weather named in the description rather than avoided
- Suited to a loaded bike and to riding through the year
- Covers both the first Caballero 500 and the later trims
- One caliper at the rear, so one box is the whole job
- No German ABE recorded; a competition article
Construction and Material Quality
Predictability is what is being promised, and at the back of a motorcycle predictability is the property that counts. The rear wheel is easy to lock and the consequences are immediate, so a pad whose bite changes with temperature or with a rain shower makes the rider tentative exactly when firmness is needed. Accossato describes a level of grip that stays where it is, whatever the disc has been doing, and puts water in the same sentence rather than in a disclaimer. The plate is the shared AGPP91 carrier, identical for all three materials, leaving the working surface as the only variable.
Downhill With the Rack Loaded
Luggage changes the balance of a light bike more than a passenger changes a heavy one. Weight sitting high and behind the rear axle presses the back tyre down under acceleration and lifts it early under braking, which sounds contradictory until you are riding down a long gradient with a tail pack. The technique that works is undramatic: let a lower gear carry part of the load, use the front brake in short decisive squeezes for the corners, and feed in the rear pedal to trim speed between them so the bike stays settled and the front is not asked for everything.
Before a trip, spend ten minutes at the back of the bike. Look at the remaining thickness through the caliper mouth, check the pedal for free play and the return spring for corrosion, and make sure the pedal is not sitting so high that a boot rests against it unnoticed on a long descent. A rear brake that is very slightly applied for an hour will tell you about it at the bottom. Fit new pads well before departure and bed them in on ordinary roads rather than on the first mountain.
Fitment and Compatibility
Both eras of the model take this rear pad. Accossato names the 2017 Caballero 500 and then the second-generation trims: Rally, Scrambler and Explorer across 2022 and 2023, Deluxe, Anniversary and Flat Track in 2023 and Six Days in 2022. The years in between do not appear. The front of the bike is a different matter, since the AGPA177 covers 2017 and the AGPA184 the later machines, so a complete change means two separate lookups. No Accossato disc exists for this Fantic. A single box fills the rear caliper.
Road Approval
We hold neither an ABE nor a German inspection certificate for the AGPP91ST, and the pads are therefore sold for closed courses and competition.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPP91 pads in the Sintered material, the complete set for the rear caliper.
