DescriptionThe whole story▼
Water reaches the rear caliper before it reaches almost anything else on a motorcycle. It comes off the front tyre, travels along the swingarm and lands on the disc, which is why a rear brake through a British autumn works with a film across its faces more or less permanently. Accossato answers that with the Sintered material, a compound the company describes as holding a high and constant grip level at both low and high temperatures and as coping when the disc is wet. For the Ducati Monster 797 of 2017 to 2021 the rear article is AGPP91ST.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati Monster 797, 2017 to 2021
- AGPP91ST: the AGPP91 carrier pressed with the Sintered material
- Accossato reports constant grip whether the disc is cool or hot
- Water on the faces is part of the design brief, not a surprise
- A single box is the whole rear axle on this machine
- Two pads to the box, matched to the one rear caliper
- OR and STMX use the same carrier in other materials
- No German ABE held; competition use
Construction and Material Quality
The factory argument for this compound is that the answer at the pedal should not depend on the weather or on how long the bike has been moving. Cold, hot, dry or soaked, the level of grip is meant to stay where the rider left it. That is a more useful promise at the back of a motorcycle than most people assume, because the rear brake is the one applied without looking, often mid-corner, often as a correction. The AGPP91 plate carrying the material is shared throughout the range, so fitting is identical whichever suffix arrives.
Spray, Roundabouts and the Pedal in the Wet
Wet-weather riding on a naked bike is a series of small negotiations, and several of them involve the right foot. A trailing rear brake settles the chassis onto a slippery roundabout. A gentle pedal keeps things calm on painted lines and manhole covers. Rolling downhill towards a junction with diesel across it, the rear is often the brake a sensible rider reaches for first, precisely because the consequences of asking too much of it are smaller.
None of that works unless the pedal means the same thing every time. Keep the rear caliper clean through the winter, because it sits in the dirtiest position on the Monster 797 and collects everything the tyre throws forward. Check the friction material on both pads when the chain is adjusted, since the caliper is already in view. Bed a new set in with a series of unhurried applications, and after any pad change pump the pedal up before the first ride rather than discovering the travel at a junction.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's listing takes in the Monster 797 and the 797 Plus at the rear wheel for 2017 through 2021 without a gap. One caliper works back there and one box fills it, which keeps the order simple. Up front the same bike uses the AGPA177 over identical years, with two calipers and therefore twice the quantity, and the Accossato disc range shows the DK008 and the DKS053 for this Monster. Other models share this pad shape, so the article number decides, not the name.
Road Approval
No ABE for the AGPP91ST exists in our paperwork, nor a German test certificate, which places the article in the racing and closed-course category.
Scope of Delivery
Two AGPP91 pads in the Sintered material, one box, the full set for the rear caliper of the Monster 797.
