DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a wet descent the rear brake of a Hypermotard 950 SP stops being an afterthought. Light, steady pressure on the pedal keeps the bike settled through a hairpin and takes a share of the work off a front tyre that already has plenty to do. Accossato offers the AGPA42 rear pad in a Sintered (ST) compound for riders who use the SP that way all year, on machines built between 2019 and 2024, and who would rather the pedal felt the same in February as it does in July.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP, model years 2019 to 2024
- AGPA42 shape in the Sintered (ST) compound, article number AGPA42ST
- Accossato describes a grip level that holds cold, hot and with water on the disc
- One box of two pads completes the single rear caliper
- Suited to all-weather use, mountain descents and loaded riding
- Softer and competition versions of the same rear pad are catalogued
- Front wheel of the SP is served by the AGPA177, two boxes at a time
- No approval documentation held; competition and track use
Construction and Material Quality
What Accossato claims for this material is steadiness. The level of grip is high and, more usefully, it does not wander with temperature or with rain sitting on the disc. At the back of a motorcycle that turns into a pedal which reads the same on the first bend of a damp morning as on the last of a warm afternoon. The AGPA42 outline does not alter between materials; only the letters at the end of the article number do. Two pads come in the box and the rear caliper takes both of them.
Dragging the Rear Down a Wet Hairpin
Hairpins on a wet descent punish anybody who slows with the hand alone. The road tips away, the front tyre is turning and scrubbing speed at the same moment, and a small amount of rear brake applied before the bend and eased off as the bike leans keeps the chassis calm. The trick is pressure rather than stamping: enough to feel the pedal move, never enough to lock the wheel. Water complicates matters, because the first part of the travel is spent clearing the disc rather than slowing anything. A material untroubled by damp shortens that moment. Remember too that the rear disc lives in the spray thrown up by the back tyre, so keep chain lubricant well away from it.
Fitment and Compatibility
The AGPA42 is catalogued for the rear wheel of the Hypermotard 950 SP, 2019 to 2024, and a single box completes that wheel. Up front the SP uses two calipers and wants the AGPA177 in pairs, which is worth remembering if you are refreshing both ends at once. Should the SP become mostly a town bike, the OR version of this rear pad is the gentler answer; should it end up at race meetings, there is a ZXC version of the same shape.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been issued to us for the AGPA42ST, and no equivalent certificate has either. The pad is therefore sold for track and competition use rather than for the public road.
Scope of Delivery
Two AGPA42 pads in the Sintered (ST) compound in one box, the set for the single rear caliper of the Hypermotard 950 SP.
