DescriptionThe whole story▼
Riding to work in January is a different proposition from riding to work in June. Dark at both ends of the day, water standing in the gutters, salt and sand spread across every roundabout. A Benelli BN251 handles that duty well, and the rear brake of a bike ridden all winter deserves a material chosen for it. Accossato lists the AGPP95 in a Sintered (ST) compound for the rear wheel of the BN251 built from 2015 to 2019.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Benelli BN251 in the Sintered (ST) compound, article number AGPP95ST
- Listed for the model years 2015 to 2019
- Accossato reports grip that stays alike cold and hot, and holds up on a wet disc
- Aimed at riders who use the bike through the winter months
- Two pads make up a box, which is one caliper's worth
- The OR material is the alternative on this rear plate
- AGPA270 is the front pad Accossato names for the same machine
- No German ABE on file; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Two friction materials are catalogued on this small rear plate, and the sintered one is the choice for bad weather. The maker's summary of it is that the pad grips alike whether it is cold or has been working, and that a wet disc does not change the answer it gives. Applied to a rear brake that spends winter under a curtain of spray, that is the useful half of the specification. Wear is described as slow, which is the other reason it appears on machines ridden all year. A box equips one caliper.
Dark Mornings and Wet Roads
A wet rear brake behaves oddly for the first fraction of a turn of the wheel, because water has to be pushed aside before anything can happen. Riders who commute in winter feel it most on the first application after a fast dual carriageway, when the disc has been soaked for several minutes. Knowing that the pedal will come good immediately afterwards, and that it will feel the same on the tenth application as on the first, is worth more in the dark than any figure on a packet.
Winter is also hard on the components around the pad. Salt attacks the caliper body, grit polishes the disc, and a chain lubricated more often in bad weather throws more of itself onto the rear brake than the rider realises. Wash the bike after salted roads, keep the disc dry of anything oily, and look at the thickness of the friction material before the worst of the season starts. New pads want a set of gentle applications to settle before the first properly wet morning.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato records this pad for the rear of the Benelli BN251 across 2015 to 2019 without any gap in the years. One box fills one caliper, and a rear wheel of this type usually has no more than that, though it costs nothing to check the bike first. The front of the BN251 is served by the AGPA270 pad over the same period, and the OR version of this plate is the milder option for owners whose riding is limited to dry weather.
Road Approval
No approval documents accompany the AGPP95ST. We hold no ABE and no test mark for it, which is why the pad is offered here for competition and for use on closed circuits.
