DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Yamaha R1 ridden across the Alps with a tank bag and a soft tail pack, or through the damp roads of a British spring, needs a front pad that does not change character with the weather. Accossato's Sintered (ST) compound for front pad AGPA97 is designed for exactly that. The pad is listed for the R1 in the years 1998 to 2003, 2006 for the SP, and 2015 to 2024, and ST is the choice for riders who use their superbike in all seasons.
Key Features
- Front pad AGPA97 in Sintered (ST) compound
- Listed for the Yamaha R1: 1998-2003, 2006 SP, 2015-2024
- Accossato: high, constant grip at high and low temperatures
- Good wet-weather grip, according to Accossato
- Consistent bite on long mountain descents
- Two pads for one caliper
- Other mixes: OR, EV1, EV2, ZXC
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato says the Sintered mix maintains a high and steady grip level whether the brakes are hot or cold, and that it grips well in wet conditions. That makes it a pad for variable weather and changing loads. For its whole range, Accossato also cites slow wear, less fade due to limited heating and powerful braking. These are the manufacturer's claims; we have not measured them ourselves.
Pass Roads and Rain
On a long descent the brakes of an R1 heat up stop after stop, and a compound whose grip stays level keeps the braking point predictable down to the valley. When rain arrives, ST responds without the hesitation some mixes show on a wet disc. For riders who travel on their R1 rather than just blast around, that steadiness is the point. The OR mix is quieter for town, EV1 sharper for fast laps.
Seasonal Check
At the start and end of each season check pad thickness, look at the discs for scoring and renew brake fluid if it has darkened.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's catalogue shows AGPA97 for the YZF 1000 R1 from 1998 to 2003, for the 2006 YZF 1000 R1 SP and for the R1 from 2015 to 2024. The models in the gap years are not listed. The R1 has two front calipers, so order two boxes for a full front set. Accossato lists AGPP39 as the rear pad for the 2015 to 2024 R1.
Road Approval
AGPA97ST has no ABE or test documentation with us, and is sold for track and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
One box holds two Sintered (ST) AGPA97 front pads, which is one caliper on the Yamaha R1.
