DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin was built for journeys that mix tarmac, gravel and weather of every kind, frequently with panniers and a passenger aboard. On such trips the front brake has to deliver the same bite in the rain on a mountain road as on a dry motorway exit. Accossato's front pads for the CRF1000L Africa Twin of 2016 to 2020 come here in the Sintered (ST) compound, which the manufacturer designed for consistent grip across temperatures and on a wet disc.
Key Features
- Sintered (ST) front pads for the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin, 2016 to 2020
- Accossato claims steady grip hot or cold and dependable wet bite
- Made for loaded touring with luggage and passenger
- Even lever feel through a long day in changing weather
- Two pads per box; two boxes for the twin-caliper front
- Same pad also offered in OR and EV1
- No German ABE on file; for competition and track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato states that its Sintered compound keeps a high grip level that stays constant at both high and low temperatures, and that it grips well in the wet. On a fully loaded adventure bike, the second point is often the more important one, because a downpour on a pass road can arrive without warning. The company, based today in Villastellone near Turin, credits its pads in general with long life, strong stopping and limited heating, which in turn reduces fade on long descents.
Two-Up Across the Mountains
A long tour on the CRF1000L Africa Twin with a passenger and full luggage puts much more mass over the front wheel under braking than the bike carries on a solo ride. On a wet descent, the rider needs to know that the front pads will bite as expected in every bend. A sintered compound keeps the lever feel consistent there. Before a big trip, check both front calipers, look at the disc surfaces for scoring and change the brake fluid if it is due. On the road, riding in a lower gear on long descents takes load off the brakes and keeps them ready for the bends.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list names the CRF 1000 L Africa Twin of 2016 to 2020, the DCT version and the Adventure Sports built from 2018 to 2020 for this front set. Two front calipers mean two boxes for a full change. Accossato also lists two rear pads for the model, the AGPP246 from 2016 to 2020 and the AGPP88 from 2016 to 2019. Compare an old pad with the product image before fitting, and bed the new pads in gently.
Road Approval
As no ABE or German approval certificate is available for these pads, we sell them for racing use on closed circuits.
Scope of Delivery
Two Sintered pads for one front caliper; the Africa Twin needs two boxes for both sides.
