DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few motorcycles are handed as many different jobs in one week as a Ducati Multistrada 1200. The same machine does the commute on Tuesday, carries a passenger and a pair of panniers over a mountain road on Saturday, and stands under a cover for most of February. Accossato presses its AGPA177 front pad in the Sintered material and catalogues it as AGPA177ST, a compound the factory describes as holding a high and even level of grip with the discs cold or hot, and as keeping that grip when they are wet. The listing covers the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Ducati Multistrada 1200, 2015 and 2016
- Article AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 pad shape pressed in the Sintered material
- Accossato reports an even grip level whether the discs are cold or hot
- Water on the disc face is treated as normal service rather than an exception
- This Multistrada stops on two front discs, so the wheel takes two boxes
- Two pads per box, the set that one caliper closes onto
- The same shape is also pressed in EV1, EV2 and ZXC
- No German ABE on file; supplied for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Read the factory note for this material closely and the operative word is constant. The claim is not that one stop will be remarkable but that the tenth resembles the first, that a disc left standing all night in a cold car park answers much as one warmed by an hour of mountain road, and that a film of rainwater does not rewrite the rules halfway down a descent. Beneath the friction layer sits the standard AGPA177 plate, shared by every version of the article, so choosing between suffixes alters the material and nothing about the way the pad sits in its caliper.
Panniers, a Pillion and a Change in the Weather
A touring week rarely stays dry from end to end. You set off in sunshine with luggage on the rack and someone behind you, and by mid-afternoon the road over the ridge is soaked, the visibility has closed in and the way down has to be taken in short, firm applications instead of one long squeeze. The extra weight aboard changes the margin more than the technique: everything happens a fraction later, and a rider notices at once if the answer at the lever moves about between one bend and the next.
Two habits earn their keep before a trip like that. Look at the brake fluid rather than assuming it is fine, because a heavily laden Multistrada 1200 asks more of its front end in three days than the daily run asks in three months. And when the pads do come out, clean the pistons and the recess around them before anything is pushed back, since grit worked in there over a winter of road spray is what leaves a caliper dragging once it is bolted up again.
Fitment and Compatibility
This entry belongs to the base Multistrada 1200 of 2015 and 2016, at the front wheel. Two calipers share that wheel and each takes a set of its own, so a full change here means a pair of boxes. Ducati used more than one front brake across the family, and the S versions of the same period carry a different article altogether, which is why the pad you take out is a better guide than the badge on the tank. Behind, the catalogue offers the AGPA29, whose listing runs past the years given here, and the disc programme holds the DKS053.
Road Approval
No ABE and no German test paperwork for the AGPA177ST has reached us, so the pads are catalogued for racing and closed-course use rather than for public roads.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered material, enough for a single front caliper. Both calipers on the Multistrada 1200 need feeding, so order two.
