DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first S 1000 RR is old enough now to be a used bike with a history. BMW built it from 2009 to 2018, and the survivors are ridden hard, taken on long summer trips and generally treated as the fast, usable sports bike they always were. Accossato's Sintered (ST) material on the AGPA55 front pad suits that life. It is mixed to hold one level of grip from the first application on a cold morning to the last hairpin of a long descent, and to carry on doing so when the weather turns halfway through the day.
Key Features
- Front pads for the BMW S 1000 RR of 2009 to 2018, with or without ABS
- AGPA55 plate carrying the Sintered (ST) material, sold as AGPA55ST
- A grip level Accossato describes as high and unchanging
- At home on a wet disc as well as a dry one
- Slow wear, which counts on a bike that covers distance
- Two pads per box, one caliper's worth; the front takes two
- EV1, EV2 and ZXC sit on the same plate
- No German ABE in our files; circuit and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Picking this article number means picking the material rather than the pad: the AGPA55 shape is the one Accossato also offers with three competition compounds, and here it carries the sintered mixture. The company's claim is about the range across which the pad behaves the same way, low and high temperatures alike, wet discs included. There is a practical side to that on an older machine. A bike that has covered a lot of ground tends to be used over long days, and a front brake that needs coaxing into life at eight in the morning has become a nuisance by lunchtime. The box contains two pads, one caliper's fill.
The Far Side of a Pass
Climbing a pass is engine work; coming down the other side is brake work, and the two are not comparable. A descent can run for a quarter of an hour of continuous corners, with the front brake used into every one of them and never given a straight long enough to cool. Heat accumulates, and on a bike that stops as hard as this one it accumulates quickly. The old advice still holds: take a lower gear and let the engine carry part of the load, brake firmly for short periods instead of dragging the lever the whole way down, and pull into a lay-by if the lever begins to feel different from how it felt at the summit. An S 1000 RR of this generation will do the entire descent without complaint, which is exactly why it falls to the rider to notice when the front brake has had enough for a while.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato catalogues the AGPA55 for the front of the BMW S 1000 RR from 2009 to 2018, covering the machine both with and without ABS. Later bikes take different pads, the AGPA252 from 2019 to 2021 and the AGPA291 or AGPA884 from 2021 to 2026, so the year of the bike decides which box you want. The rear runs on the AGPP91 across 2009 to 2024. One box fills one of the two front calipers, and a wheel is always stopped better by two fresh sets than by one. DK006 and DK007 are the disc numbers on file for this model.
Road Approval
For the AGPA55ST we hold neither a German ABE nor any test certificate, so nothing documents this pad for public roads. It is sold for track days and for competition.
Scope of Delivery
